Hey guys, I've been looking through the photo threads on here, and I notice that lots of people have extended ARMS rails on their rifles. Most of them are the SPR profile rails, with the cutouts for the PRI tubes. That's not what I'm interested in, though... Several people have rails like this one: http://www.magpul.com/pics/m95f_4.jpg Notice how it's straight, with no cutout for the PRI tube? http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y58/Kmitnick/new-DSC01018.jpg http://webpages.charter.net/alindsey34/AR%20and%20Friends%20Webpage.jpg I hope no one minds my using these pictures. If the owners would like me to remove the images, just IM me. Does ARMS custom make these rails to a specific length? How would one go about ordering such a thing? |

ARMS rails in those pics are #38 SPR MOD for use with 1st Gen PRI ff tube and #38 EX MOD L for use with KAC RIS. #38 SPR MOD PEQ 2/3 with cutouts is for use with those 2nd and 3rd GEN PRI tubes. IIRC there is couple of more versions for the #38 EX MOD L rail, too. MN |

Ah, I didn't know they made one specifically for the KAC RAS. You see, I'm interested in using one in conjunction with an ARMS #22 M68 to get it to the correct height for a proper cheek weld, and the setup I'll be running is the Troy Industries MRF-MX. I know that the rail is 10" in length, and I was wondering if the #38 WITHOUT the cutouts for the PRI tube would be too long. I think I'll PM Mongo and ask him how long the rail is from the front of the upper reciever to it's end. if it's 10", I'm very lucky. Would ARMS build one to my specifications? I had emailed them through their website on two occasions, and have yet to recieve a response. Thanks! |

Weight isn't much of an issue, as the rifle will be a range gun anyway. We can't carry our AR's anywhere else in Canada anyway. hink How much does the #38 SPR MOD cost? How much more would it cost to have one machined shorter? I also took a look through the ARMS catalog, and on one of the last pages (I'll get a number when I get home) they have a photo of all of their assorted rings attached to a rail which looks shorter than the SPR MOD, with no cutouts. I also didn't see the forward crossbar as is on the EX MOD for the KAC. |

One question: Will the ARMS #53MV (Designed for the AR10 Rifle) fit on an AR15? If not, what modification would be required to make it fit? What's the issue that's stopping it from fitting? I'd rather have the 53MV over the 58M because the latter has a cutout for the handguard cap, whereas the former does not. As I'll be running a low-profile gasblock, the cutout would just look silly. Thank you very much! |
Why not just get the angled spacer and be done with it - cheaper and lighter?
I doubt it. ARMS doesn't 'build' much - they sub out all the work to sub contractors. |

Forest, I probably will. And now that I see the upper rail idea is impossible, I'm looking at some other options. Such as the #53MV (Designed for the AR10 Rifle). Does anyone know if it will fit an AR15? What modifications would be necessary to MAKE it fit, and what's stopping it from fitting, if anything at all? I'd rather have the 53MV over the 58M for purely LCF reasons. The 58 has a cutout for a handguard cap, yet the 53 does not. Since I'll be using a low-pro gasblock, cutout would be unecessary and would detract from the LCF. I like the bulky look and feel that the ARMS SIR's bring, over the slim feel and look of the Troy Industries MRF-MX. Hopefully the 53 will fit, and then everything will be just fine. Thanks! |
| No, the #53MV will not fit on an AR10, and there is nothing you can do to make it fit. Just get the mid length ARMS #58, it is the same as the #58M but it does not use the cut out. If you like the bulky feel, the Troy may be better because a Troy with pannels is noticably thicker than the SIR without pannels (dont need pannels for the SIR). |
