well ive been on here for a little while looking around and seeing things, getting a feel for what i want,

now on to my question
i decided to bite the bullet and purchase an AR,
my only preferences
1.colapseble stock
2.removable handle A3 i think
3.not an overly long gun, something fairly short when stock is all the way in,

now i dont want to start a brand war,
but im a student and im poor as dirt, but when it comes to my guns i dont like to play with junk,

so im goin to do a lill saving for a while, what is the best quality for the money set up i can get that would meet my list of requirements,

i have heard alot of good things about bushmaster and rock river i think its called,

your experienced and honest opinions are needed and will be greatly appreciated,

build yer own...it is easy and fun....I built a couple like you describe with STAG lower and rock river guts. they are as good or better than any fully assembled factory rifles that I have purchased, deifinitely tighter.

I cannot remember the exact costs, but they were cheaper than factory guns

Both with approximately 1500 rounds through them a piece, without malfunction

Go Frankenrifle. There are lots of good 16" M4 configuration kits around. I went for one of those and am totally happy with my rifle.
I'll give a plug for del-ton because you have a lot of options on what goes into your kit up front.

can you guys give me some insight on where to start looking to buy parts

I purchased the Uppers fro Adco, they are Rock River which come with  Wilson Barrels, If I remember Correctly.     www.adcofirearms.com

I purcased the lower parts kits and collapsible stocks and wrench  from www.ar15sales.com

Both of these guys support this site and are super to do business with

The lowers were from a local FFL who had advertised them on the EE.

By using all RR guts and A stag lower, I really dont consider these to be Frankenguns, as Stag makes the lowers for RR.

Like I said earlier they will shoot as good or better than any of my factory guns.

Use FALARAK's detailed directions in the Build it yerself section of this site and you are good to go

I have built several ARs using all Rock River Arms parts bought off EE board. For the fit, fininsh, and the bucks I am very happy with each of my rifles.

i read on the build it yourself pages, that the tools alone to put an AR together are expensive, are the tools good for any AR, the reason im asking is later on i want to put a 9mm together,

Most people are only building the lower receiver, and all that takes are the tools already in your garage.  If you want to barrel your own upper, the receiver block and wrench will add another $50-60 assuming you already have a vise.  It is NOT very expensive for the tools.

I just ordered a del-ton kit and I'm going to pick up a Stag Arms lower today, the kit should be here in about a week or so, I sure hope, I can't wait.  But all in total for the kit and lower its about $700, I'll post back when I can tell you how it shoots.  It's my first AR, and I didn't want to spend too much either, so I figured it was the way to go, plus if you build your own, you get what you want and when you want to upgrade you more or less will know what you are doing.  Saved me about $200 over what I have seen at gun shows for the exact same guns

Stripped lower- piece of cake   +1 on Stag lowers.  the deer is kinda ghey, but price/quality ratio is hard to beat.

Stripped upper- not so much, specifically barrel installation.  It can be done but....if it was my very first AR I would leave that part of labor to the factory

M4 stock
A3 upper
16in bbl--chrome-lined

i would get a del-ton or JTD kit and a stripped upper to save the time and trouble of getting seperate parts, for right now

A 1-7 or 1-9 barrel twist, you know, the rifling of the barrel.
You could definatly build your own rifle for much cheaper than buy a factory one.
I however found a Bushmaster mod carbine for pretty cheap right after the ban (suggested retail price is $1600, i got mine for around $1000) and I really like it. 16" barrel, very accurate, I'm no expert but I believe they took their really really nice varmiter barrel and cut it down to 16" because they are virtually the same, just shorter. Of coure I have done some modifications after the ban hug.gif

Check eaglefirearms.net.  The have the Rock River Entry Tac rifle WITH chrome-lined barrels on sale for $780.  The Rock River rifles come stock with quality fire control group parts - unlike some other manufacturers.  This is an A3 setup - so pick up a quality folding BUIS for around $100 and ask the folks for an EOtech sight for Xmas (around $300).  IMHO a solid setup for the money, and you won't be disappointed.

www.eaglefirearms.net]  Excelent site!!!  They have complete stag lowers w/6 pos. m4 stocks for $215 and eagle arms uppers starting at $409 if you want a nice quality assembly for a good price.  I see they also have a kits section under construction.  Their stripped Stag lowers are 80 bucks.
model1sales.com]  has kits starting at $415 but i think it may be a gamble concerning quality, although i have on and am verry happy with it.

It really doesn't matter that much, but 1x7 will allow you to shoot slighty heavier bullets.
