| What is a forward assist? |
+1 I would not go into a situation with an M16/AR15 where someone was shooting back without an FA. Not needed for range work? perhaps not, but my belief is always that you should train like you intend to fight. ETA: All it takes is a little sand, dirt, or fouling in your action and having the FA is priceless. |

lets say your rifle gets a little dirty, some debris gets stuck in there, etc..thats why you'll need one. Personally I've never needed one, but I wouldn't have a 'serious' rifle without one. It's just a good thing to have just in case. ETA: damn I'm a slow typer. And man, I hope this doesn't turn into the last FA thread we had... |
| ok i see what you guys are getting at. I will be using my rifle for hunting though, not self defense, i have a .45 for that. So in my situation, if a round got hung up, why would I want to jam it into the chamber and risk damaging the barrel? I think I would remove the round and try another one. Or will I not get barrel damage using a forward assist? |

Unless you are in a situation where someone is shooting at you, you probably should not use it. If there is something keeping your rifle from chambering a round, the best thing to do is clear the fouling, not force the round in there and set off a 52000psi explosion. |
no damage, it was designed to be used that way. |
Just give me the coordinates of you burial plot. WIZZO BTW, FA is a must. _DR and I have agreed on this before. Besides all I shoot is Wolf.......every once in awhile it's needed. And yes, I have used it. My brother's M16 clone (slabside upper) is in desperate need of one. He has shucked many a round onto the ground by racking the CH and letting 'er go again trying to get the bolt to fully seat. If I decide to go retro anytime soon, I'm gonna hve a FA on there, but not the Lefty face protector |
