I notice that I have a couple of 20 round USGI mags----one an Adventureline and the other a Universal/Simonds-----that don't seem to result in the bolt "staying open" on the last round.  In contrast, all of my (probably a good dozen of them I use as 'range mags') Colt USGI 20's result in the bolt staying open on the last round, as do all of my USGI 30's.

What's "going on" here?  Thanks for your insights!  CBR

Off brand?  Adventurelines and Universal/Simmonds are USGI.  Colt's mags are made by the same contractors, except with the Colt stamp on the floorplate.

Yet another examples of why newbies shouldn't post...

Replace the magazine springs - Wolff or Fulton Armory should have what you need.

Colt DOES NOT make magazines.   They bought those from a contractor that was making them for the military.    I have some "Colt" mags too, but they arent' really.

The reverse happened to me:  I just purchased a new Bushmaster and have run about 1,000 rounds (same brand ammo for entire run) through it.  The only malfunction that I had during the entire run was that I had one instance where the bolt remained open yet the magazine was not empty.  It was very early on in the run -- probably after about 30 rounds in a brand new gun.  What causes that?  Believe me, I'm not complaining but I would like to know why it happened.

Your hand!

You hit the bottom tab of the bolt release forcing it up into the path of the carrier.

Absolutely not.  I was squeezing them off one after another with my trigger finger as the only thing moving.
