OK, I've been having some trouble with my EA CAR, so I decided to pose this to the experts: 1. I took it apart to clean it (did NOT disassemble any part of the lower), and put it back together the next day. When I did a check to see how it functioned, it acted like it would be full-auto. When I would dry-fire, pull and release the bolt, and slowly release the trigger, it would drop the firing pin again instead of the "click" of it being reset. When I took it to the range a week or so later, it did not shoot full-auto, so should I be concerned about this? If so, what do I do about it? 2. More serious, the first time I took this carbine to the range, it fired a few rounds, and then the bolt wouldn't close all the way (about 1/2-3/4" from closed). I tried using the forward assist, no help. So when I broke it open, the buffer detent had come out and gotten stuck in the bolt, so, of course the buffer spring was all over the place. I replaced the detent, but now if I screw the stock in tight enough to hold the detent in place, the upper won't close. But if I don't, then I have the same problem repeat. Besides "Dump it and buy a ___________ (Armalite, Bushmaster, Colt, fill in the blank), what can I do to remedy this? |

for the second issue, your buffer tube (receiver extension tube) is not screwed into the receiver far enough if your buffer detente is coming out - the buffer tube is what retains that detente, it should cover enough of it so that it does can not pop out. That alone should not keep your upper from closing. Did you post this in the troubleshooting section? Tweak is very knowledgeable on these types of issues |

Part 2 ) Replace your buffer tube with a new one made by LMT, vltor or Colt, or replace the whole stock. If your buffer tube prevents your upper from closeing when screwed far enough in to hold the detent then there is something FUBAR with the tube itself. Part 1) do the function check with the upper of the lower. Pull the trigger to the rear and hold it. While holding the trigger back, cock the hammer backwards, it should catch, if it doesnt something is FUBAR, if it does, then release the trigger holding your hand over the hammer to if it where to release it wont slam forward damaging your lower. The hammer should again catch after you let go of the trigger, if it doesnt replace your LPK... |
Or, even worse, the hole for the detent is drilled in the wrong location. |

OK, thanks for the info guys. I already tried filing that tube but it still won't quite fit. Doesn't make sense. Also, I performed the check w/o the upper on and it still fired. hinking.gif Like I said, not an illegal Class III weapon, just kinda weird. |
| It is not unusual to have to remove about 1 thread on the upper portion of the buffer tube. It happens occasionally. It is important that the lower portion of the tube cover part of the buffer detent, and almost touch the pin, but not quite, allowing it to move freely. Any portion of the tube that would interfere with the upper closing needs to be ground off. Just remove the tube, gring on the bench grinder, then wire brush to remove burrs, test fit. That is all there is to it. |
