I would guess that the Army bought a few hundred thousand of them with chrome carriers. Those parts were dumped long ago, don't know where they went. Unlike the Air Force who still have a bunch of early stuff. Too bad the Air Force did not buy any chrome carriers with forward assist cuts. I ended up buying one of these 60's bolt groups: www.auctionarms.com/search/displayitem.cfm?itemnum=6559312 And am using a Chrome bolt and retaining pin out of a old Air Force riflle, and am going to send the carrier off to be chromed. |
