Forgive me if this has been posted before - but what exactly does the T stand for on the top of an AR upper?

It gives each slot a specific address so that people can mount, unmount and remount optics and such back in the same spot.  This allows to repeat a set zero on an optic, for example, after unmounting and remounting.

But the T doesn't actually stand for something? Like Tango 2 or Terrific 2?

My guess is the T is for top.  I have seen R and L number on the sides of a railed forend and I assumed they were for right and left.
