Why is it that majority of flat top upper receivers on the market does not have anymore the forging mark?
Even RRA, Wilson, Les Baer, DPMS and Bushmaster flat top upper receivers, not all and most does not have the forging marks anymore, unlike A2 uppers.
Why is this so? Is that area where the mark is prone to be machined off?
How can you identify where the raw forging came from?

Good question, I do not think its because of the area as they could move the forge marks. As for identifing the Mnf. You cannot in most cases. The Mnf. knows where he gets the forgings from and can Identify his own complete work by minute measurements or differences in the machining, while some of the same companies share forging suppliers, it may be to avoid getting into a situation where any one supplier gets a deserved or undeserved reputation as to being better or worse then the other by popular informed or uninformed consumer knowledge. But then again it would not explain why the A2's have the forge marks. Hey, it sounded good anyways lol

Where the raw forging came from is less important than who finished it.  Was it Joe's Hack Shop for ASA or was it a more precision shop who serves a company like Rock River, Bushmaster or Colt?  That's what I like to know.
