[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Question on serial numbers

I have a DPMS lower with a serial # F00XXX and a CMMG with a serial # SA00XX, I've also noticed the Rock River has a CM00XXX serial no.

What does the F , SA or CM prefix tell me? I'm guessing it a manufactures code.

DPMS "F" = forged
RRA "CM" = CMT = Continental Machine & Tool (the subcontractor who machined the lower)

I dunno about CMMG.
