I have an AR15 with a Rock River Arms barrel and a Colt HBAR Match II receiver.

I'm wanting to do some varmint shooting, so being the ignorant fellow I am about such things, can't I just buy an upper half that has a .223 barrel and just plug and play?

Are there any other considerations here? I'm thinking about the RRA 24" EOP.

Would the longer barrel be best?  My choices seem to be 16-18-20-24

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Yes, you can just buy a complete varmit type upper and put it on you existing lower.  I prefer a 20" barrel for varmit type shooting.  I did the 24" thing but it just seemed to awkward.

I thought I could do this. Not much of a rifle guy. More of a handgun guy but didn't want to assume anything.

Thanks,
