| Anybody have one? Thinking about getting one to use as a" SP1 like " shooter. |

I had them make me one with a C7 upper (to approximate the M16A1s I carried in the Army). Very good rifle, excellent service. Overall, no complaints. Mine short cycled a few times on Q3131A ammo during break-in (first couple hundred rounds), but has functioned flawlessly with Q3131 and Federal/Lake City M193 since then. My only complaint is it short cycles a lot on Wolf 55-grain polymer coated ammo. I'm in the process of trouble shooting that. When I was shopping for an M16A1 lookalike - I was not ready to build one - I only found two. One from CMMG, which I can not longer find on their site, and Fulton's. Both were built with C7 uppers (DPMS, I think) and new USGI 1x12 "pencil" barrels. Fulton's was a little cheaper and came with some nice little details like a D-fender and Cavalry Arms Gapper. If I wanted another one, I would buy CDNN Investments' $400 SP1 upper and stock assembly (including buffer, action spring and buffer tube) and buy or build a lower (w/o stock assembly) for it. I've got online retail parts prices in a spreadsheet. The total (without shipping) runs from $712 (complete Mega lower w/o stock and DPMS or RRA parts) to $989 (complete Colt lower w/o stock and all Colt parts). Totals for an RRA, DPMS, Armalite or Bushmaster lower and their parts are $777, $792, $801 and $803 respectively. Again, these costs are online retail prices. I'm sure you could do better at gun shows or if you qualify for discounted or wholesale prices... |
