I don't know what is so fabulous about this product except for the fact that it is the only way to have a facsimile (read not the real thing) in CA. Have any of you built one of these, and what differences for the build is there from an ar receiver? I am told that all the parts of the build would transfer to an ar receiver. It is a way to get part way there. I read in another post something about a LPK and an FFL. Does a LPK need to be sent via an FFL? |
one of my local shop here wouldn't do transfers for a Fab10 because they fear of it's Illegalness  even though it's got papers from the DOJ....apparently they're still living in the 'stone age' and still don't understand the concept of finding a way to go around Dumb Laws like the ban...I tried to convince them to buy one or two of the fabs and put it on the shelves....they looked at me like I was a lunatic....oh well, I'll take the business somewhere else

| I just recently purchased one and I've almost completed it. I ordered a varmint parts kit from M&A parts and received it in about 2 weeks. Only problem is they forgot to send me a safety selector. It should be here Mon. Or Tues. All the parts fit on the receiver except of course the mag release. I've come to find that there is two different models of the Fab 10. One has no bolt catch and one does. I have the one with the bolt catch which means that I will not be able to use a stripper clip guide. In my opinion the price is a little steep, I paid 300 bucks for mine. A friend of mine bought one about 2 years ago and paid 160. That's quite a price increase. The only other option is the completed Bushmaster that I have seen at the gunshows. They are modified by an outside source who basically turns them into Fab 10 receivers. A completed A2 was around 1500 bucks!!! I recall shooting with some guy who had a different receiver than Fab 10, but after researching I couldn't find this company; probably because their out of business or they stopped making them. |

The FABs work great, I've built four of them. All of mine are pre- bolt hold/release. The bolt hold option makes no sense to me, as the bolt has to be closed in order to load the mag. I also just ordered one of the new Vulcan (  ) Kaliban lowers, with the fixed and blocked 20rd mag., but it has since occured to me that the extended mag body will interfere with a VFG, when loading the mag. We'll see.

Here's a thread on calguns.net about first-hand experience handling the Vulcan and GB-Sales Bushmaster lowers made into PRK-compliant rifles (i.e. no longer considered "assault-weapons" by the geniuses in Sacramento): calguns.net/eve/ubb.x/a/tpc/f/332609466/m/75210119221 For the record, I have a FAB-10. It's one of the first ones (two digit serial number) and I can't complain on its operation. Fit and finish is very good, although some remarked that it's not purple like a real Bushy. To each their own. I've had nary a problem over its 2,000+ rounds. The only downside is it doesn't have a bolt catch, so during ceasefires at the range, it's not immediately clear that the chamber is empty unless you break open the weapon and pull the bolt out to show the empty chamber. I had to educate one rangemaster who was perplexed as to how to make sure it was "safe". For range duty, that is the only downside to it, IMHO. Regarding cost, it's really not productive to compare the cost of what a "CA-legal" AR variant is with a real one you can get in the free states. Moving out of state will generally cost more than just acquiring a FAB-10, Vulcan, or GB-Sales rifles if you really want an AR-style rifle. |

| First I tried to order Fab 10 from Shoeless Ventures, but it is not easy to get hold of them and you can't buy one from the website. I then ordered and paid for one through Sonoma Firearms ($299), but the day before I was supposed to pick it up, they called me and said they had trouble getting hold of Shoeless to get one as well. I was also informed that from now on you can only buy a complete lower when available, not stripped, because too many people either screwed up on the assembly or were buying cheap parts for the lower; no price on the complete assembly yet. Sonoma also told me they had to send the Vulcan lowers back, because the California DOJ had a fit over the twenty round modified to fit ten mag, saying that it could easily be re-modified to fit twenty rounds. Find an FFL first before you order, because some are afraid to carry them. |
