What is the average accuracy you would expect from your AR (chrome lined 14.5" barrel, Sandbagged with scope)? What would be your FAIL accuracy where you would dump the barrel. My guess is 2" groups at 100 yards and 4-5" groups at 100 yards for fail. Whats yours? |

my 2 cents.., i believe the accuracy of any AR is beyond the ability of the average shooter.., but if any one can keep a 6" group offhand at 100 yds is a pretty damn good shot & does not need to worry about the accuracy of the gun, you will do very well in a combat situation if the need arises |

The trigger setup is going to have some affect. My bushmasters came out of the factory with some pretty crunchy triggers, makes it difficult to get down to that 2".If you get a decent trigger (I have messed around with a couple of aftermarket brands and found the plain Rock River NM is all I want)most of the military ammo will shoot ten shot groups down around 1 1/4 to 1 3/4 at 100 yd.This is with a good scope and a bag rest. With winchester VARMINT 45 (40 pack at wall mart) I get a solid 1" to 1 1/4" with any of my factory bushmaster 1/9 chrome barrels.I would think some of the Black hills loads or other factory premium loads would do as well or slightly better, a good handload with a good bullet would be in the same ballpark but I usually grab the military stuff or the VARMINT load if I need to prove a point. Some day I am going to set myself up with a better barrel and see what I can really do.I can't seem to decide between a Varmit type, highpower setup,or a pure cmp type gun.I hang with a crowd that knows their stuff about what makes little tiny holes close together,I have to pick their brains and possibly weed thru some of their castoffs. (No, not the guys who brag about how they shoot, these guys are the ones who do it and smile among themselves when the braggarts start up) |

My shooting bubby who is a lot better than me, can get 5 to 8 shot groups less than 1" with my RRA NM lower and 20" A4 upper, on bags with a Nikon 3.3-10 x 44 scope, 100 yards. Done on a nice, calm day. He does this with Winchester 55 gr FMJ, no problem. I/he has never tried match grade ammo. He feels he will be able to do 3/4" or less. We will see. 77Bronc |
