First of all, hello to all on this board. It appears to be a great source of info on the AR-15/M-16. Now, for my question. I have the opportunity to purchase a DPMS ar, with a 20" heavy stainless bbl, 1-9 twist, chrome bolt carrier, one-inch extention for the butt, and a flat-top reciever. It is in mint condition, except for a small nick in the side of the mag well, where it may have dropped or slid into something. I would like to know if any of you have an idea what fair market value is on this rifle? Thanks in advance. |

My apologies if I had offended you. It had nothing to do with you being new here, in fact, I hadn’t looked at you info until you mentioned it. It’s just that I despise DPMS, believe their product to be crap (hence Triumph), and would encourage you to look elsewhere. Having now looked at your profile, I see you’re from North Dakota, whereabouts? I have family there. |
I completely understand, no hard feelings here either. I’d definitely go the route Aimless mentioned, I think Bushmaster is a much better product. |

Ok, I'm better now. Went through the above after work, and I can see the humor in it now. ch139, I'm the one who needs to apologize. I took your post as someone just busting the FNG, and didn't realize it actually pertained your view on DPMS. Guess I jumped to conclusions. I gotta learn to loosen up! (My job does that to me sometimes.) I'm in the Devils Lake area, but I've lived in just about every county in the NE corner of the state. Had a bit of a wandering streak after high school. |

I’ve got family down in Richland County (Hankinson), my little sister went to NDSU and her husband and our cousin both went to UND, I used to like to come out during the summers and hang out with this one girl from Kindred. Small world. Back to arfs, I’d really check out Bushmaster (and everybody else) before taking the plunge on a DPMS By the way, welcome to the board. |

Welcome to AR15.com. I have owned different ar's. I have owned the same set up that you are looking at. Mine worked great and was accurate. The upper had a nice fit and finish. I would say 700.00-750.00 would be fair if it is in very good condition. Everybody has their favorite brands. I don't know if DPMS would be my first choice in a tactical rifle, but they make a great target rifles. No disrespect to anyone with a DPMS tactical set up. banks308 |
| I am a big DPMS fan. I have 11 AR-15's right now: 2 BM, 1 Ameetec, 1 Armalite, 1 RRA and the rest are DPMS. Of them all, the DPMS rifles are the way to go if you value accuracy more than anything else. They do have tight chambers and overall tolerances, so they will take more to break them in properly than BM or RRA rfiles, but it will pay off. I'd say that $700-750 is a fair price if it's unfired. |

Just purchased and fired my DPMS lightweight AR (16", 4 position stock...got a GREAT price!). Shot great and is as nice looking/finish as any other AR I've handled. Currently have a Colt Blue Lable made into an M4, RRA M4 clone, DPMS .308, and now the DPMS CAR-16 Panther LIte. Very handy, lightweight. Upper/lower go together nice and tight, but not too tight. Trigger is actually very smooth for stock AR trigger...perfectly acceptible for a social (read, not target) rifle. COmpletely satisfied...and did I mention a GREAT price??? We all have our favorite brands..and many have horror stories about this brand or that...bottom line, do not fear DPMS. Cheers. |
