I purchased a 24" fluted stainless complete varmint upper at the recent Indy 1500 show and put it on my Bushmaster lower. The weather was not too bad today...sunny, 10 to 15 mph wind and around 30 degrees and Ive been wanting to see how it does so what the heck let's go.. This will be first time trying to post a pic.here too... let me know. after setting up the Chrony and target, I loaded up 10 rounds of 62 gr, win. bulk bullets with 23.4 grs. of 2230c, set at 2.250 oal. I mounted a Simmons 6.5x24x44 scope with 1/2" riser. needless to say it shot low and to the left. made some adjustments and got it closer to the "red dot". shot 5... 5 round groups with the best of .853 moa and the others were in the 1.250" to 1.500" moa, I recent got this powder and I am working on a load. not too bad for first time, sorry no pic of this target. I ran a bore snake thru and setup new target and loaded the mag with 5 55 gr.Hndy v max over 25.5 gr. Varget, another load in the making... first group was the best at .486" moa. avg velocity was 3060 fps. 2nd was .893", 3rd was 1.118". I also shot 10 round group of 1.164". The right side, top and middle group in the pic was the winchester 45 gr Varmint pack...1st group was 1.139" and 2nd was 1.330" moa. avg velocity was 3412 fps. I'm not saying these are great groups but I'm happy for now with what I have and really enjoyed getting out and shooting even though my feet are wet from all the snow. question...the 45 gr win. says 3600 fps. and I only saw around 3400fps. is that the norm for cold weather? is the 3060 fps on the 55 gr hndy about right or should they travel faster ? Is it a good assumpion that perhaps with warmer weather, they might increase to 3200 fps...as I was around 200 fps slower than the Win 45gr box said ? the pic is not the best, hope it works, need more camera practice too huh? thanks for letting me share a good time today with all of you. http://img182.exs.cx/img182/1290/97resized3mv.jpg |
