Ive been very busy with work since 13 september. I just got some time during the holidays to relax. I went back home and went to our local gunshop to buy a ban free COLT AR-15.  The shop owner said it may take a while. I said why he said it depends on COLT. He offered a bushmaster but i said no i wanted a COlt. So i left unhappy. I later found out colt is not making the AR-15 for civilians. What is the deal with this???

Call Clyde Armory in Georgia and get on their list.  They shipped a 100 out a couple days ago.

That sounds more accurate.

Colt seems to maintain a fairly constant rate of production, with most of it going to military and LE contracts. So when commercial demand for Colts goes up, it just drives the existing availability down and the prices up. As has been said, Colt AR15s ARE available, just not at prices most of us are willing to pay. You buy one now or wait for supply to catch up to demand and deflate the prices a bit.

Colt just doesn't cut corners and take the chances inherent in quickly ramping up production to meet a temporary higher demand. Have seen the results of other manufacturers doing that, frankly, I'm glad Colt refuses to.

I have seen a few available on the Equipment Exchange as well.

Maybe things are getting sorted out for everyone.

Hope so.

With an apparent Colt shortage in the US, simply judging by some member's difficulty in finding certain models, I was curious whether or not this would affect the availability of Colt ARs in Canada. Although Canada does impose restrictions on barrel length as well as not allowing fully automatic firearms, would anyone think that it would be hard to find a semi-only model? Just curious as I recently got my firearms license and only having experience with AR-15's thought that it would be a logical first gun.
