I'm building an AR that will be used for primarily for prairie dog hunting.
What would be the best muzzle device to put on it.  I was going to put a standard A2
flash suppressor on but wasn't sure if that was the best choice.

Thanks,

I know that the bare muzzle would be more accurate, but
the barrel that I am going to use already has threads.  I was wondering
what I should put on since the threads are already there.

I stop in to see the guys at Lauer Custom Weaponry from time to time.  I was in there last week and I saw that most of the AR's they display are still post-ban.  I asked why they weren't all threaded and lugged up, and Tom at LCW said that most of the competition shooter still prefer no suppressor or brake on the barrel.  He said that they shoot more accurately that way.

in cmp/dcm, a brake would a nogo, only two items are a go. 1 clean barrel. 2 a2 fs, (full or bottom closed).

+1. I have no verifiable comparison but will say that my groups tightened up with the Vortex compared to the A2.

I seem to recall a claim or study that hinted that the Vortex increased accuracy.  Don't remember who, what, when or where, but the lingering memory exists in my head for some reason.

Nothing on the end of a barrel will increase accuracy. The vortex may be better than an A2, but its not an improvement over nothing. If you think how a flash hider works  -  disturbing the air the bullet passes through as it exits the barrel is detracting from accuracy.  If someone wants an A2 for looks on one of my uppers, I bore out the "pocket" basically eliminating the flash hider effectiveness, but also eliminates some of the disturbance of the air.

Personally, I would throw on an OPS INC brake, or any other brake and go with it.  If you want the flash hider look, the Cav Comp looks nice and works good.

Dunno anything about how any of them effect accuracy.

Not a bad option, by design the OPS INC brake has no flash hiding ability. notice the muzzle is flush with the brake(something you wont see on a flash hider).  Looks cool, but its a wase of money IMO unless you have the can to go on the end. IMO - leave the muzzle bare.

If you must have a flash hider, the old A1 was the best of the bunch for accuracy.  The gas seal breaks evenly, and there is no side of the expanding gas ball which has more pressure than any other side.

CavComp. On my 20" bbl it actually pushes the muzzle down slightly. I imagine it would be perfect on a 16" bbl.
