Cool, thanks

I'm think I am going to hold out for a 18" or 20".

It's looking more and more like the 6.8 will tank.

You forgot the smiley at the end of your post that denotes sarcasm.

I am not spending $600 on an upper until I see ammo on the market.  I hope the round does not tank.  I would like to see it.

I have been building AR-15's for over 15 years now. Mostly for myself and my friends, and this caliber will go mainstream. It has all the things going for it, magazine(PRI), uppers (DPMS, MDL 1 Sales, PRI, and others. Also, this is a huge improvement over the 5.56, also Remington will is manufacturing loaded ammo. Also Hornady and Redding  make reloading dies, so jump in and start building today. This is one caliber you will be pleased with. Flip over to the 6.8 thread and take a look at Zak's FAQ's, he has done his homework. If you don't reload, this would be a great reason to start. Reloading is very enjoyable, and you will shoot more and accuracy will be great! Take care and good luck with the 6.8

20" Priced at $490

They've got 20". That is what I'm going for to get every fps out of that sucker I can.

Got to be careful deer hunting with it since it is in the same range as the old .25-35 Winchester and the .250-3000 Savage.

traditional ballistics of the .25-35 Winchester called for a 117 grain flat point bullet at a muzzle velocity (MV) of 2300 fps(6.8mm is 115 grain @ 2690 fps.)

250 Savage...factory loads that drive a 100 grain spitzer bullet at a MV of 2820 fps(6.8 pushes a 110 grain at 2690 fps)

Use it within its limitations & you'll do fine.
