In MA I have to be 21 to have a high-cap rifle/shotgun
But I can't move because I am in a state school.

Whatever you do, DO NOT keep it anywhere on Campus.  Even with a CCW Permit, most if not all states have a strict rules on having firearms on school grounds.  I stored mine in my golf bag and shoved it it my closet, but I lived in a private dorm that was not on school campus.  I don't agree with the ban because the walk at night from my old school back to my dorm was not very safe (A student was beat half to death with a baseball bat near my old dorm).

Yup, college campuses are usually designated Defenseless Victim zones.

Here at WSU you can store them at the police department if you live on campus.  You can go up there and check it in or out 24/7.  When I lived in the dorm I kept a rifle or two at a friends place who lived off campus.  I didn't want the campus police playing with my toys when I wasn't there.

This always makes me laugh.  I'm a college freshman and I keep my AR in a false floor that I built and upholstered in the cargo space of my SUV.  I'm just waiting for the day my car is searched...

I never lived in a dorm, but when I lived in a shady neighborhood I let my bud keep it at his house so that he could drool over it.  I did like the idea of contacting the local police department and seeing what they would have to say about the situation.

In my experience dealing with the 17-22 year old crowd, keeping the majority of them away from firearms is sort of like keeping open flames away from spilled gasoline.

{rant}I spent YEARS as a technical training instructor in the Air Force, and our young charges had  both some of the DUMBEST ideas and the WORST individual self restraint you can possibly imagine.  Remember, these were Air Force kids-not even trained to be aggressive nor yet extremely competitive, and they managed to bugger themselves up routinely and sometimes very badly.  They did the worst of it in small groups-it's like they lost all mental competency when three or more were together.

I also spent many years living in a major college town-Austin, Texas.  The "frat boys" as we called them would routinely do interesting and fun things like apply soapy water to the tops of steep hills, just to watch the ensuing auto accidents, or pour liquids (who knows what liquids) from their fourth or fifth storey balconies onto pedestrians innocently strolling below.  These were not always fraternity members, just immature and unsupervised young people who were too bright to be left to their own devices without something serious to do.

From this experience, I can generalize that, though there are a few responsible and intelligent young people between the ages of 17 and 22 years of age, they are few and far between, and in the interest of preserving the lives of the responsible and intelligent ones, it's best to enforce some sort of adult control and supervision.  Dorm residents often aren't allowed much more cooking equipment than a microwave, and how many dorms have been evacuated because a kid couldn't read the instructions and burned up a bag of popcorn-and the microwave in the process?

Finally, I must point out that, having attended a total of SEVEN colleges and universities through the years (I often only got three or four semesters in before a Permanent Change of Station move), the vast majority of crimes committed against college students are committed by other college students, from dorm thefts to assaults.  This is sadly also true of military dormitory residents.  (I got to "escort" a convicted military dorm thief to his new assignment at the Quantico brig once; very illuminating.){/rant}

Edited for spelling.

@ PSU you used to ber able to store the rifles with the campus police in a gun locker and sign for it any time you wanted it.

Note this was 1992-1996. After the shooting they had there i dont know if poilcy changed.

100% Right on the money!

In the mid 80's, I was an R/A in a university dorm. You name it, it happened. Most of these kids were fresh outta HS and looking to get into whatever trouble they could find. I have seen it all.

It went from mild:

Note in my mailbox at the housing office:

One of your students on your floor has hung a sign outside their room..... "Wanted: Blow Job!"

Please have it removed immediately!

To wild:

Girl passes out at a party and is gang raped while unconscious.......

For God's sake, no guns for them, please!
