Kind of a newbie question here.  What (other than handguards) is the difference if any between a mid-length set-up and a dissapator?   I wanted a 16" upper with the benefits of the longer sight radius.  If I understand correctly, these 2 uppers basically use the full length gas system on a 16" barrel or is that not true.  What are the diffs or advantages, one over the other??  Trying to decide which is the better way to go.  My main concern is reliabilty and function.
Thanks in advance.

Kevin, the Dissy has a carbine length gas system with rifle length sights; the true gas block is actually at the normal position, albeit under the hanguards, the fornt sight is only a sight.
The mid-length actually has the gas block/front sight positioned between the carbine length and rifle length postions. The further out position gives a longer dwell on the gas pulse, slowing the cyclic rate and softening the felt recoil (form the abrupt sharp sla of a carbine length).

Dissipator uses the carbine length gas system but allow the sight radius of a rifle due to the extra front sight base in the traditional location.

Mid length uses a "mid length" gas system, in between a carbine and a rifle.  Sitght radius is in between as well.

The argument will go on about which is more reliable, but the fact is a well built, well set up gun will run fine in any of the 3 configurations.  Get the one you like the looks of best.

ETA:  Doh, a little slow

I thought the dissy used a 20'' gas system.

I was going to get one for the extra reliability but I think I'll go with a mid-length.,

The mid-length gives the gun the more natural apperance.  you can also use the bayo lug as intented.

the + for the dissy is the full length hand guards and the longer sighting radi.

I hopes this helps....later

I would prefer mid length. I like that gas system, and the idea of putting two gas blocks on the same gun is repulsive to me. That said, my last project is an 18 inch with a rifle gas sytem and no port mods. You can cut to 16" on a rifle, but the port has to be opened and the buffer spring shortened.

You all are making me want to order a chrome lined mid-length instead of a m4 style barrel. I think I might.

I should have got that to begin with. I was in a such a hurry I ordered a post-ban 16 CAR upper. If I would have known it was going to take 3+ weeks (still waiting) for my mega I would have ordered a no-ban setup.

crap...just checked adco...its even the same price....
