As I was fumbling adjusting the elevation on my daughter's new Cav Arms based rifle (hah, she "liberated" it from me and I don't think I'll get to shoot it again) using my "Unversal AR-15 Armorer's Tool" (common ordinary carpenter's nail set) rather than the damned A2 tool, does anyone else have the problem that the A2 tool does not fit between the ears of the front sight base?  The old A1 tool worked fine.

The tip of a M193 rounds works fine in a pinch for front site post adjustment....

I've got a similar problem.

I bought a Mod1 sales Std A2 kit and a sight adjustment tool.   The tool has five prongs and fits the Mod1 front sight post great.

Then I bought some parts to put a rifle together from scratch... well the fron sight post only has four notches in it vice the five prongs on my front sight tool.  What gives?

And most internet parts sites with foto's show the front post with four noches instead of five.   I'm a noob, and i'm confused.

How do you turn it?  I was able to use a nail punch to press the detent down, but I couldn't get my fingers between the ears enough to turn the post.  I had to go grub a pair of needle nose pliers.

No fingers necessary, except to hold the M193 round.

Simply put pressure in the direction you want the sight to go. To raise the front sight insert tip of M193 round to depress the plunger and pull tension left, front site will move in "one-detent" increments. To lower the sight reverse the procedure, your pressure should be to the right after plunger is depressed.

Nuthing to it, and you'll always have a handy tool for front sight adjustment.

I did it that way (bullet tip) last time I sighted in a new rifle and it works, but it's kind of a pain.  I had one of the sight tools but forgot to bring it with me.    So I now have two sight tools so I can leave one in the case with each rifle.

I've seen three kinds of tools.  One is what I assume you're calling the "A1 tool" which has a thin end with 5 points to match the A1 front sight and a thick end that I assume matches the A1 rear sight.  The second kind is just like the first but has 4 points on the thin end to match the A2 sight.  That's the kind I had and forgot.  The new one is just thin and has 4 points on one end and is knurled on the other.  It's much taller/longer than the other kind.
