Need some advice.  Found a "preban" Colt sporter lightweight.  1/7 16" barrel.  fixed stock, drilled for front detent.  M4 marked upper, fixed carry handle.  M4 feedramps.  It is not quite NIB, but it does appear to be unfired w/o box.

Place wants $895, before armwrestling on price.  I had it set aside for now, but havent committed on it yet.

Already have a A3 LEO and a 6700, but I want a lightweight carbine.

good deal or too much?

Help!!!

Thanks  Oz

Sounds pretty fair, especially when you figure the obscene prices that Colts are going for right now.  If you don't buy it, I can guarantee you that another person here will.

I would walk in with $850 in cash and plop it down on the counter as an out the door price.  Cash has a mysterious way of making prices better....

I'd buy it for that.  I paid quite a bit more for my 6530 back in the bad old days...

I picked up mine 6 months ago for 799. Nice rifle. I can't bring myself to change anything on it.

The Colt Sporter Lightweight has some collector value to some people as there were only about 27,000 made and that there are still ban states. From what you describe sounds like somebody might have put an LE 6520 upper on a Lightweight lower, which isn't uncommon. This would reduce the collector value, but it's still a very handy package, nonetheless. Brand new LE 6520s can be had for a little more than that, so I guess it all depends on what you want your lower to say and what has value to you.
If you're on a budget, as many people are this time of year, you could always buy a lightweight upper and just switch back and forth.

You may not NEED another, but theres always rooms for one more!

I dont think it has a replacement upper on it.  It has no bayonet lug.  I am pretty confident it is in factory original condition after talking to the brother of the original owner.

I really need to just decide if I need a 3rd AR or concentrate on somthing else that is "cool"

My wifes sporter lightweight has feedramps, "4" marked above the gastube and a 1/7 lightweight barrel. Its on the right in this photo. It was mine until she shot it then she took it over

I think its the best configuration Colt ever made. Buy it, you wont regret it.

My wife does too. It weighs just right and swings just right.  That rifle has never even hickupped.   She's never had any formal training but she is very good with that rifle. I call her an "Elementary teacher with an attitute". DO NOT be a threat and be down range of her ACOG or else!

The bottom line though is that that seems like a good price for an excellent weapon. I'd recommend getting it. It wont go down in value.

Haggle with the price a little bit, he might come down on it.  I bought my LW in '91 for $650.  Personally I think $900 is steep, but after some searching on the internet, I found people are trying to sell their  Colt LW's for +1200 clams.

Heck, I would like to have another LW to go with mine right now.  The balance of the rifle is dead center of the carry handle with a loaded 30 rd mag or empty.
