In another thread, there was controversy over Colt's new plastic buffer, and as I have a couple of guns with this buffer, those posters got me all upset over what to do.
Can the plastic buffer just be replaced with an aluminum one, or should the spring be replaced too?

Damn I was all chilled until I read that thread

I've used the buffer for along time, it's ok, I don't believe it well break and the only reason I replaced it with a milspec because I wanted the loose weights inside to help make sure the bolt seated, I've used it as a hammer since then and it's held up very well

Did you replace the spring too?

Tommorro I will be picking up a New Colt  MODEL MT6400C  Match Target M4, now I'm all freaked out about the Plastic buffer ( I believe theres no problem with them). I have not paid for it yet so I do have some leadway on picking out something else. Should I get the Bushmaster, Wilson, or the Colt. I live in CT. so the telescopic stock must be fixed and no bayo lugheMatch Target on the lower receiver.

You are better off with the 6400C. It has an aluminum heavy buffer. Here is a pic of mine:

Here is a pic of the lower:

If you guys look on the thread about the plastic buffer, I now posted photos regarding the failure of the plastic buffer.

Yes folks, there IS a problem with the plastic buffer.  Keep in mind, this isn't the only buffer that I observed this happen to!

All I did with my rifle was replace the buffer with a Bushmaster buffer.    It runs fine!

I've shot thousands of rounds thru my rifle with the org in, then I switched to a milspec, while I had no problem with mine, those pics clearly show a problem

Murdoc,

Like I stated in my previous post on the other thread, I wonder if the problem with the buffer could be from heavier bullets?  All I fired were 62 FMJ's and 69 BTHP's.

don't know, I shoot heavy stuff, maybe the buf was coming forward to much and hitting the buffer retainer pin harder than it should
