[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Removing SIR Rails

How do you take off the #1 and #2 rail plates on a SIR (I have the SIR #50)? I tried unscrewing it, but it just backs out and the actually rail won't come off. One has a swivel on it, and I don't need it, so I'd like it off. I have no use, for now, for the other one.

Unscrew the screws in the side pannels. Then unlock the two screw type things at the rear of the bottom handgaurd. Slide the bottome handgaurd off the top. Take the side rails off. Reinstall the bottom handgaurd.

It looks like the screws that hold the side rails down actually help to support the lower handguard. Should I be concerned about not having it on anymore, or is it fine?
