So I buy a DPMS forged lower and a 16in A3 CAR kit from M1S.  I take all of the parts to a local gunsmith who I happen to do a lot of business with and he helps me assemble it.  I was planing on purchasing a flip up rear sight because I am going to eventually mount optics on it.  But for some reason I decided to purchase a carry handle for it.  I go to the range and the gun functions and shoots great except my groups are 2-3 inches high.  I call M1S and they tell me that the problem is that my upper that I purchased from them is mil spec and that I most likely purchased a Civilian carry handle.  I asked the individual that I was speaking with if an extended front sight post would correct my problem because I did not want to spend the money to buy another carry handle.  He stated I have never heard of such thing.  He almost came off like he did not want to help me he wanted to sell me another product.  So now I do not know what to do.  Is there a difference in a mil spec and civilian carry handles?  Or is he full of crap?  If there is a difference can I spend $15 and replace my current sight post? Or will that not work and I need to get a mil spec carry handle or flip up sight?

Help!

Adjust the elevation by adjusting your front sight.

I have the same setup, but my carry handle is from M1S as a part of the package.... I've also purchased a YHM fixed rear BUIS (has no elevation).  When I zero the BUIS (by adjusting the front sight post), and then swap out to the carryhandle, with the rear sight at zero, mine too shoots quite high.... to zero it with the front post, I have to turn it several turns and I'm afraid it is very close to falling out.   Something is up with their carry handles I think.

I'm real interested to know if a different carry handle might work better so that I can be zero'ed with both the YHM BUIS and the carry handle.  What would one look for?

Yes Colt has a different carry handle height than Bushy - but I seriously doubt M1S's are built to Colt specs (Colt's M4 front sight bases are a different height).

If you need the taller front sight - then order it from Bushmaster.

I am using the front sight to adjust the elevation the problem is that it appears as if the spring and detent are about to launch the front sight post and stick it in the ceiling.  I cannot raise my front sight post any more.

So should an extended sight post correct the problem?
