| I am planning on getting the barrels on my ARs threaded and am curious about one thing. The gunsmith I talked to locally said he does thread barrels, to include cutting a new crown, as he indexes the barrel from both ends in order to turn it down and this messes up the crown. Will turning the crown have any negative effect on the chrome lining of the barrels? Any information regarding this procedure would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

It depends on how he intends to cut the crown. But if done properly, there's really no reason why the barrel should have to be recrowned in the first place. You might want to try talking to someone like ADCO who does this work all day long and knows how to do it right. -Troy |

I ship all my threading work to www.socommfg.com Ernie does great work, he has threaded several barrels for me. Buy one of his side charging uppers while you are at it. |
+1 here for Kurt's (I haven't worked with ADCO, yet). Kurt has done some work for me and it is great. Frankly, I have come to the realization that there are very few gunsmiths, that operate independently, in the US qualified to do the quality work that we demand for our ARs. I think that most of the better gunsmiths work for the big names (colt, bushy, arma, etc..), do not take on new customers, do not advertise, or otherwise do not hold themselves out to general public. |
