| Please start writing your Senator and House representative now to tell them and Bush that we will not accept any infringement of our right to bear our now legal arms.Don't let our excitement over the positive election results result in complacency.Remember George Sr surrendering his NRA life membership because of his principles.Dubya has said he will sign a new AWB;now that he has nothing to lose and needs to reach out, your rights may soon be in peril. |
Excuse me? Do I need to remind you that the Assault Weapons Import ban of 1989 that prevents us from having rifles such as HK91s, FN FALS and Steyr Augs imported was enacted under the administration of George Bush, Sr. with a republican majority in the congress?! And this ban will never sunset. You put entirely too much faith in the hands of fickle politicians, be they Republican or Democrat. |
| drew, If you are right LEO prices should tumble.Bush will actually ramp up Colt production to meet "newly defined requirements" for our soldiers;this is why Colt is being cagey about new civilian sales.Colt is not your enemy and will come back around to us with the present ownership or without . |

I thought the dems still had control then. |

Tom Delay and Bill Frist won't let it happen. They didn't before, and they won't now. I am not getting complacent, I spent hours on the phones back in August and September. But I think we are in the clear for the moment. Remember, the first awb was a backdoor, last minute deal that never would have passed if we had the coordination and communication that we have now. Now we are on the ball, on top of these things before they ever get close. |
There was NO Republican majority in Congress, and Congress was not involved in the 89 ban... It was an EXECUTIVE ORDER, involving only GHWB himself... The GOP majority came around in 1994... The DEMOS controlled congress under Reagan & Bush Sr... |
|
We have 55 (IIRC) GOP Senators now... We also sent their boss packing - the Dems have no leader right now... Why would we have to 'deal' with anyone... I fully expect Frist to go full-on against the Demos... Their 'Spokesman' is a freshman from IL who ran basically unopposed... |
while it is not my intention to disagree with the major point of your argument it should be noted that you currently can purchase a new us made fal from dsa that is probably superior to the orignal (made in america with pride!) and that same company soon will be producing Augs. |
| No offense, but I think we can all breath easy for awhile. Myself, I'm pretty tired of writing letters, as are many others. Take a break for awhile and relax. Enjoy the moment for now, another one like this may not come around for a long time. Read my lips: there will be no new national gun laws for the next four years. Make sure you all keep up on your state level stuff though, don't wanna take one in the pooper cause you weren't paying attention |
You need to check the history books...you're off by quite a bit. And he isn't 'George Bush Sr.'. |
|
Good advice Nightstalker. For those of you who think we can take it easy for now? No offense, but that stratagy NEVER won any conflict, and our right to bear arms is no different. All that our enemies need is a little slack in order to hit us hard. We live in troubled times my friends, where the public opinion of the general public has swayed over to the "Anti-Gun" mentality. Steady pressure on our elected officials isn't just a good idea, it's a nessesity in my humble opinion. |

| I don't know if ya'll have noticed but all of the talking heads are mentioning gun ownership as one of the core Republican Issues that won the day for W. It warms my cockles to hear that on every major network and even NPR. I think a few nicely worded congratulations with very polite suggestions would go a long way at this point. Just my .02 USD....h.gif |
I agree...a combo of Gun ownership and mobilization of evangelical christians were a huge part of victory...some positive reenforcement of this point would stick in the minds of the leadership right now!! |

I would look for any liberal to sponsor and try to pass a bill that would bring division in our country !!!! Our country is divided. When momentum for a bill is in the liberal media / press then citizens start to be persuaded, and then the majority of opinion is deemed as right. It could happen that a new AWB is written and passed on the FEDERAL and STATE levels. Join the NRA (a strong and large organization) and write to your public officials. Protect what is yours; your rights, your freedoms. |
The 89 ban was just Bush asking the ATF to looks at the sporting purposes clause of the 1968 Gun Control Act. No EO was needed or issued , and congress had already passed the law in 1968. |
I don't argue that this particular ban was not actually beneficial to American companies, and that are some quality US clones out there, my point was you can't trust politicans of any ilk to not take away our gun rights so let's not get complacent. I stand corrected on the composition of the congress in 1989, but it was under Bush Sr's watch. If the wind blows the wrong way, both democrats and republicans will take away your ARs. We need to let then know it will cost them their jobs if they try. |
|
The Republicans, and a lot of Democrats, know which side their political bread is buttered on, as regards to the gun issue. We must not compromise on any gun bill, NO NEW GUN CONTROL, and we must push to repeal the "sporting purposes" portion of '68 GCA. That will automatically get rid of the '89 import ban, as the EO that is based on will no longer have a basis in law. We must have federal suits to force application of the 14th Amendment to the 2nd, thus overriding antigun laws in Chicago, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Kalifornia, and other communist states. |
