Hands down Bushmaster for my needs.

If I were looking for a cost effective bench shooting rifle I'd consider DPMS.

The only DPMS build guns that I'd consider for my needs are made by CMMG with custom chrome lined 1:7 twist barrels (that you can't get on factory guns).

well...I own a DPMS.  And my nod goes to Bushmaster as well.  Don't get me wrong, I really like my rifle, but the Bushy has the edge on fit, finish, and the all important chrome lining.

If I had to choose between the two, and these two brands being the only available

I would have to pick Bushmaster

Nobody has asked the most important question.  What STYLE of AR-15?  DPMS kicks ass over BM for long range tack drivers.  BM has an edge in the oh so trendy M4 type.

Wrong on all counts Forest / 1-7 cromelined are factory upgrades direct from DPMS - CMMG buys all there parts from them.

The only range here is 100 yards.  But I can get them all in a hole the size of a quarter. Everytime!  I took it out out to dispose of some state protected animals that were eating deer corn.  All head shots at ~250 yards!!  The first shot was low.  After I fixed the scope(range finding drop compensating) it was 6 headshots.  All between the eye and ear.

 I thought I did OK!

Oh yeah, the animals start with a "J".  So the area that the bullets hit were about the size of a fist.  From a half standing position leaning on a fence post.

I'd say you did damn fine!  Props to you and the BM!

I have both a DPMS PANTHER RACE GUN and a 20" Stainless Bushy XM15E2S. I love em both.  But I'd go Bushy if I had to choose between 2 stock AR-15 type rifles.

Thanks for the replies.  I suspected as much.  I was considering a 16" carbine.  Long range goes to my .308 bolt action...
