Could someone with a Phantom flash suppressor, maybe laying around not attatched to a barrel, possibly take pics of it looking down the muzzle end? Basically I'm trying to find out if there is enough meat around the edges to bore out a 3/8" hole so a 9mm slug can pass through it.

Or if you dont have pics, maybe just some measurments on the outside diameter and the inside diameter.

Thanks in advance!

One note that you may or may not know:

The standard threads on a 9mm barrel are different from the threads on a .223 barrel.  I don't have my reference books readily handy right now, but I think that 9mm are 1/2"X36TPI and .223 are 1/2"X28TPI.  This is so that you can't "accidently attach a .223 flash hider to a 9mm barrel, which would result in a 9mm bullet contacting the FH, at least once anyway.

BUT, if  you were to custom thread a 9mm barrel with 1/2X28TPI threads and bore out the Phantom, it would definitely work, as there appears to be enough meat to do what you want.

Mongo, you are the man! Thanks so much.

I'm going to get ADCO to cut and thread my barrel and I was thinking I would get them to thread it 1/2 X 28 for future suppressor use.

From the pics, it looks like all that would need to be done is drill out that middle hole to 3/8". Could it be that simple?

Thanks again, sir!

I believe that there is enough meat there to do that.  It may be close, but I think it is doable.  Glad to hear you know about the thread issue.  Hate to hear of someone making that type of mistake and having a kaboom happen.

Best done on a mill, but a sturdy drill press would do also.  A hand power drill wouldn't be recommended if you like your fingers on your hands.

I could live with 9 fingers if I can get a mean-looking 9mm flash hider!

I had a perfectly good Phantom FS and decided I would make it "better" by drilling out the restriction at the base of the FS.

To make a long story short, the flash suppression of the Phantom was much WORSE after boring it out.

It still looks great, but doesn't work nearly as well in suppressing flash.

I'm not going for flash suppression. It's for a 9mm after all. I want it more for the scariness factor.
