The free floating forend that Bushmaster offers on their vmatch rifles and carbines is relatively cheap but they dont have rails. I don't think I can justify the cost of a DD forend, just for the rails, if in essence, they both do the same thing (free floating the barrel). Does the DD forend free float the barrel any differently. Is there any free floating forends that are cheaper, that maybe offer rails on just the top?  Plus, are the Bushmaster free floating forends any good?

Yankee Hills offers similary FF rails that are inexpensive.  They offer one (similar to the one you mention) that allows you to put rails whereever you want (and in your choice of rail lengths).

The only problem is these rails are not 'true to spec' and a few devices won't work with them (notably the Tango Down VFG).

BTW YHM also offers a rail similar to the DD but at a lower cost (no it's not 'as good' but it will get you close if you are on a budget).

Yes.  DPMS also offers rails on a SS barrel.

Which YHM rail is similar to DD?

They do one thing the same: free floats the barrel.  But the Bushy handguard has very little in terms of ventilation, after a few rounds, even if you're just bench shooting, it'll heat up fast enough you will need gloves to hold it.
Even if I don't need the rails I'd get a railed handguard for better cooling, they're also easier to hold for my taste.

The rail height issue has/is being resolved, the foream assemblies coming off the line from YH now have the proper clearance for the Tangodown grips.

New YHM rail height clearance -

Old YHM rail height (will take new pics tomorrow below are photos on file) -
