I'm considering a BSA Red Dot scope to go on my A2 upper.  Anyone have any thoughts on this setup?  Thanks

I just threw one in the trash can the other day.  Tried for about 2 shots on a FAL, that obviously didn't work, put it back on a .223, still bounced around.  probably would be okay on an AR.

I don't care much for any sight that take a battery. Look for a low power scope.

Got a cheap BSA red dot at Wal Mart for $30 about 3 years ago.  I have had it on two AR's and one SKS.  It has never lost zero.  Maybe I got lucky.

I have one on a beater 10/22. It ain't no Aimpoint but it does hold its zero and the batteries last forever.

I've had good luck with mine.  I do tend to baby it though, it is only a range site.

So did I then.  I even put one on my 3 1/2 magnum 12 ga turkey gun.  Year after year it gets 20 or so rounds on the range and at least one shot at a turkey sometimes more.  And it will kick the shit out of you.  I did have one go bad on a cross bow, but I might have dropped it out of a tree stand.

I had one on a Marlin Model 60 a while back.  No problems here.

I got mine from the same batch the mjohn did.  RD30 from WalMart.  No problems holding a zero.  But I don't like the dot, not real clear.  Shopping for a TacPoint.

Purchased one for my AR while waiting for better optics to arrive.  Well worth $30.  Had no problems holding zero, and I still put it back on from time to time.  Wouldn't use it as a primary sight, but fun nonetheless.

MJohn3006 said it right:  I've had mine for three yrs, never lost zero, and it's taken quite a beating.  I bought a 1/2 inch riser mount from Yankee Hill Machine (I don't like Yankees, either) and placed my red dot on top of it, and placed it at 12oclock, so that I can co-witness rear-reddot-front sights...works fine.

I bought one just to see if it could do the job at such a low price....

Never mounted it on my rifle because I noticed that the red dot would wash out really bad in normal daylight conditions (even on brightest setting).....Maybe that was just the one I picked up, but it bugged me enough to keep me from mounting it.

I am going to get one of these and one of those cheap carry handle mounts from tapco to mount on my Dad's AR.
He likes shooting but can't see anymore.
I figure A red dot for plinking away at 25 yards + the fact that he will be able to hit stuff again =We will start having fun again. (instead of listening to him cuss up A storm and hand me his rifle every couple min to "check zero" for him.

I have one of those I bought a Dick's last year.  It's on my 10/22 works perfect, the dot is'nt exactly round but it works.  I never thought of using it on one of my AR's, I did'nt think they would hold up

Had it on my AR first now on my SKS. Has thousands of rounds under it and still on same batteries. So far lighting conditions has not washed out sights. It is my primary sight, if it fails I will use the standard sights. Dot is not round but you don't notice it when you are blasting away. Best thing since bubble up for aging eyes, very quick for target acquisition. Friend was totally against anything electronic on guns. I bought him one and he mounted it on a Browning buckmark. He shot the smallest group ever with it. He is on a buying spree now.

Me too and such!  Mine took a good beating once when I forgot it was in the bed of lotboy's truck.  Still held zero.

I would be safe and throw in an extra $70 for a TacPoint...I asked about cheap optics in the optics section, my thread is tacked at the top.

Same here. Mine would not get bright enough to see the dot in daylight. I took a hammer and busted the glass and threw the POS in the trash. Never did get to actually use it because I couldn't see the dot. The built in mount sucks ass too. Good luck.

I thought about a BSA, but then remembered my bad luck with buying cheap stuff, so I saved the 30 bucks and saved up for a while, and then bought an Aimpoint ML2 last week - now I'm glad I waited. this thing rocks!

I'd started out using a BSA red dot sight, just to see if I'd liked red dot sights or not.My M4 clone now sports a Aimpoint, nothing but the best for my baby. That being said, the BSA  worked fine, but I wanted something  more durable & longer battery life.
