I was just at the range and out of about 75rds fired, I had 6 shells failure to fire. There is a small dent in the primer and it was dificult to eject too. I used this ammo last weekend with no problems at all? Any ideas what might be the problem? Thanks. |
"American Eagle" brand ammo? I would try some Winchester white box or XM193 and see if the problem goes away. I have had mixed results with "American Eagle" brand. Some boxes were OK others had problems. It's not real bad ammo or anything but some rifles are sensitive to certain ammo. I always use winchester white box and XM193 as my baseline, then go from there. If I were you I would post this in the troubleshooting forum on this site. Tweak has a lot of knowledge if it's more than just ammo he will be able to give you an idea of what to check. |
Not with extraction problems or light primer strikes as you described. bad mags usually cause failure to feed. |

| I did on one and it fired, but didn't take the chance on the others. Last week I went through about 100rds of American without a problem. Could my barrel be junked up with gunk from my 50rds of Wolf? Is a good bore scub in order? BTW I have a chome lined barrel. |
Hold everything, you didn't tell us you used Wolf! If it was polymer coated (the new stuff), no problem, but the lacquer coated Wolf has been known to melt and then harden in your chamber and really gunk it up. There are those who say they have used the lacquer coated wolf with no issues, but also plenty of horror stories. I would never fire lacquer coated ammo in any of my beloved AR15 clones. In an AK, sure, but not in my ARs If you fired the lacquer coated ammo, this could be your problem; lacquer deposits. That could explain difficult extraction for sure - a tight chamber. I would clean carefully with lacquer thinner, then make sure you remove all residue and lubricate throughly with CLP breakfree. Clean,clean, clean. Then try again with some known good ammo like Winchester white box. My .02 cents worth. |

Could it be that the rifle's chamber was dirty and the bolt was not going fully into battery, therefore some of the impact of the hammer blow was absorbed pushing the bolt fully home? Difficulty extracting the unfired rounds COULD be due to a dirty chamberand would fit in with the above.  Lonny |
| If your AR is new then run a few thousand rounds of brass cased XM193, or any other quality up to spec pressure ammo before running wolf in the rifle.Once the moving parts break in and the springs are not so stiff,your chamber will be all polished out on its own then run wolf through it.If the rifle is not new and you are getting light firing pin strikes I would change the firing pin or look at the hammer spring. |
