My Armalite:

1. Works, all the time
2. Has never broken
3. Is more accurate than it should be
4. Had its 6th birthday.

Armalite does not make 14.5 inch barrels for civilians, although you may be able too special order one.

Armalite is one of the best, DPMS is reliable, but as far as being milspec, and usable with all accessories, they are hit or miss.

Bushmaster

or  DPMS or  RRA

Whichever you buy dont forget to go chrome lined.   I had a non chromed DPMS and it was not a 100% reliable rifle.   My chrome chambered Colt is 100%.   I'd personally lean towards the RRA as a good bang for the buck.

Why 14.5", then you have to permanently attach a flash hider or brake.  Might as well go 16.

I am a big dpms fan.  Maybe perhaps they're made in my home state.  Maybe because you can customize and upgrade they hell out of your order, or maybe because they've always performed well.  Chrome lined barrel option is like 20 bucks or something on almost any barel they have.  Armalite is good, so is bushy or any other main line brand  - just stay away from the unspeakables.

I Have an Armalite with a 16" barrel. It is chromelined and has a Lifetime warrantee. Why do you need a14.5 barrel? I would get a 16" for the better ballistics, and not having to deal with having some long probicis attached to the end of my rifle just to make it legal.

I own Armalite and RRA.  I love them both.  I traded my colt for one of my armalites and I am still happy with my decision.

1 Vote for Armalite.  I also traded a Colt for it and am happy.   But I also have not experience with DPMS

"but as far as being milspec"

No AR-15 is milspec.  No match trigger is milspec.  Some milspec items are or may be unnessary, or to no advantage for a semiauto.

And some items used by some mfgs are better than milspec.  For example, Cavalry Arms furnture is made from a better plastic than milspec.

That being said, Armalite and DPMS both make fine products, and I have some of each.

Gotta vote for Armalite here too, currently running an Eagle Arms and it works like a champ.

As far as barrels go, Bushmaster is the best IMHO. Affordable, quality, chrome lined. Their uppers aren't too expensive either. Maybe buy an assembled non-Bushy lower and a Bushy upper and snap the two together?

DPMS - have three and they have always functioned perfectly.  All are very accurate as well!!

Armalite.

That chart is not accurate, DPMS offers Chrome-Lined barrels.  I have never had any problems with mine except I got a cleaning rod stuck in the barrel due to an oversized cleaning patch but, I did get it out.

People on this site generally say Colt or Bushmaster.  Does that mean that the ABC's of ARs are better?  That is up to you to decide.  CMMG offers excellent DPMS Ar's that are as good as any Bushy or Colt.

At the national matches at camp perry many competitors I have talked to swear by DPMS's quality and accuracy.

Holler at CMMG. They'll hook you up. And I think they happen to have 14.5" chrome lined M4 barrels. And they work great.

DPMS............majority of shooters will never shoot enough to warrant getting a chrome lined barrel....regular or Stainless Steel barrels are usually more accurate although most won't realize the difference unless you are in a competition match.............

I have not heard one bad thing about CMMG except that they have "dremmled?"  M4 feed ramps and not true M4 feed ramps on their rifles.  Does that matter?  That is up to you.

The chrome chamber however is desireable for enhanced reliability with crappy surplus ammo.   I've experienced the difference firsthand.   My Oly and DPMS were nowhere near as reliable with SURPLUS/WOLF as my chrome chambered Colt.    I still have a stainless DMPS superbull and it shoots great with quality ammo,  I dont shoot the cheap crap in it.

I have yet to have my DPMS SS barrel malfunction with Federal  XM-193 or Winchester Q3131A...the XM-193 is very accurate, the Winchester a close second with so-called cheap ammo..............I don't shoot Wolf in mine.........

How many of you out there believe this?  Armalite Chrome lined vs a DPMS Chrome lined?

This? or That?

I just don't understand why somebody would want to shoot Wolf ammo in a $750+ gun...

They (DPMS)  can get you a 4140 chromed lined for $20.00 extra,  not 4150

Edited to add:

I'd still go with ArmaLite over DPMS

Well, considering that DPMS supplies CMMG with 4150 and chrome-lined barrels kinda gives me the impression that DPMS does make 4150 barrels but, they do not have them on their more basic rifles.  I would get one from CMMG anyway.
