I am curious, do to another thread.  Does anyone know what type of weapons are being used by contractors.  I am more interested in the blackwater type contractors gear.  I know that LMT uppers are the hot set-up and am curious as to what lowers are being used.  Another thread eluded to some companies build guns for their contractors.  Thanks for any assistance.

This varies -widely- depending on the company and the individual.  Everything from high-dollar AR setups to locally purchases AKs.

Some of the earlier photos of Paul Bremer's security detail (on militaryphotos.net) showed the Blackwater guys using M4's mostly shod with ARMS SIRS (10 or 11.5 inch barrels) with Vortex flash suppressors. The predominant optic of choice was the Aimpoint......

Edited to add:

Wes Grant of MSTN (a vendor and frequent contributor to this board) is also one who builds weapons for the contract guys. He stated in a different thread that he builds to customer specs. Some want Bushmaster, some want LMT, others want Colt.

Just curious
I assume most contractors use full auto set ups? What is the difference in rate of fire between full and semi auto?

          thanks

I dunno about anyone else, but Blackwater guns are semiautos.

Interesting.  10 of us were on site at Blackwater and the Staff Armorer for Blackwater was supposed to be our co-instructor.  He stopped by on day two and gave us a run down of how he builds the mostly Bushmater weapons to Blackwater specs.  They even have a nifty laser engraved lower design on the reverse of the Bushie logo of Blackwater's logo.  I went to his office for a buffer spring and saw boxes and boxes of barrel parts, some barrels, vise, beta mags etc.  Looks to be a pretty comprehensive op.

The armorer was testing the 6.8SPC for use later on down the road.  Looked good too.

Most of what I've read about with regards to American contractors has them using semi-auto Bushy lowers.

I had a guy in the other day from XXX company.  Last trip they were using AK shorties, PK and PKMs, Browning Hi Powers.  He has me building and LMT Mono Upper for his next trip as they are getting updated gear (Colt M-4's) and he wants to Gucci his up a bit.

IIRC, Blackwater issues Bushmaster semi-auto lowers.

They use a wide variety; 16" HBARs, 14.5" M4s, 20" HBARs, 11.5" shorties, 14.5" HBARs...you name it they build it and run it.  The post-ban Bushy M4 the Armorer showed us had 65,000 rounds through it!  I saw a lot of SIRs and Aimpoints but while standing in the chow line one fella walked into his office with a 14.5" RAS equipment M4 with an ACOG.

However, their folks are given the real-deal Colt M4 carbines once they get to Iraq.

Yeah I was at Blackwater a few years ago. I was in their arsenal and they had every kind of weapon in there that you can think of. Their AR's though were all Bushmasters from what I could tell. My instructor used a Bushmaster. Keep in mind this was a few years ago but at the time most had standard stocks and 16 inch barrel lengths.

I build M4's because they look cool but I'll tell you if I were serious about a tactical weapons, I think i'd have a similar set up with some type of good aimpoint or something.

Gotta be high speed.  Either have been on teams in the military, or solid time on a major SWAT team.  That seems to be general hiring for most.

Some contrats the Govt Agency provides the weapons, and if you want anything other than a stock M4 or in some cases M16A2 you have to put your own upper, stock, optics ect.
