Starlight Case - takes 4 padlocks and has a pressure valve. It's actually a 2 rifle case with a second layer underneath. In retrospect I should have ordered my case with wheels because it's so darned heavy when full. I cut the foam myself - which turned out to be quite a task if you want a snug fit. Soon I'll have to start cutting again when I change the handguard and add an Aimpoint Comp 2M... *sigh* http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v252/Dascoyne/P3300044.jpg http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v252/Dascoyne/P4010050.jpg http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v252/Dascoyne/starlight_03.jpg |
I didn't know they were selling at Sam's until I checked out their website. Would that be for the 2-rifle case? - if it is, boy do I feel silly. (Oh well, I've payed more for less before). I bought it some years ago and payed a lot more than $65. www.starlightcases.com/ I like it. It's a pretty tough case - much tougher than a comparable Pelican case, at least. I ordered one after reading a favorable review on www.snipercountry.com: www.snipercountry.com/InReviews/StarlightCase.asp |
i respectfully, TOTALLY, disagree with you. 2 of mine HAD the wheels, till i cut them off with a hacksaw. i couldnt stand them, i never actually "wheeled" it anywhere. and the 3 inch difference means they can now fit in my trunk (they couldnt b4). to each his own. [asshole mode] and to be brutally honest.... if you can't pick up your own gun case and carry it, shooting might not be for you. you might wanna just stay in the kitchen and make pie have a good one. take care. Try cutting the foam with an electric carving knife like you would use on a turkey.Works really good.I used to be a Starlight Dealer and sold quite a few on the boards until I got bitched at for selling them to cheap. Now Sam's is giving them away.I bet it really burns the Dealers asses now. They are great cases though dont hesitate to get one. Jm03 |
Why didn't you unscrew the wheels? |

BTW, I got this information from Brack Wilson, the Vice President of Starlight, so any other "theories" that you may have heard about these cases are nothing more than unsubstantiated Internet horseshit. If anyone would like to go contact Brack directly to verify this story please IM me, and I will give you his personal e-mail address. Edited to add: It should be noted that Brack and the rest of the Starlight crew are just about the nicest guys in the world. While it's good for us as consumers to get a deal like this I feel pretty bad for the nightmare that Brack and the gang are facing because of this mess CJan_NH- I wasnt trying to start anything with my post just stating the obvious. You are 100 % correct about Brack and the whole Starlight crew.Very nice people, and like I said their cases are a great product. If you have an AR you should have one of these cases no doubt. And Im sure the rest of the Dealers are getting screwed by Sams.Typical Walmart buisness practices. Take Care Jm03 By the way the Polyethylene foam is a great addittion to any Starlight case.Much tougher and isnt affected by oils solvents etc. |
I didn't get that impression that you were 'stirring the pot' at all. Please accept my apology if you thought otherwise My post was a straight cut and paste from a previous thread that got a little heated. I probably should have cleaned it up a little to remove the editorial content Brack is without a doubt one of the nicest guys I've ever met-and I consider myself very fortunate to use his products. In my humble opinion Starlight is among the very best in the world. A while back I donated a bunch of Starlights to my father's PD and the guys pound the living snot out of them. Despite the extreme treatment they have held up perfectly. |
Stainless, What happened to "respectfully?" Seriously consider doubling your dose of Haldol, OK? honest, Doing things the hard way doesn't prove anything ...unless you've got something to prove. Besides, I'm not the one who bought the wheeled cases, pal. Here, have some pie... have Dascoyne |
Okay... Two handguns, a rifle, and a ton of loaded mags on just ONE part of the case, he could do the same thing below it, plus the weight of the case... I'd like to see anyone carry that comfortably and without strain for the half mile walk from some parking areas at places where I have shot. |
Try haulin' ass thru a major metro airport with said weapons case AND luggage loaded down with your other training gear ......You start to appreciate those wheels an awful lot........ |
|
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH well, #1 i did hammer out the "axels" out of the wheels, but they still wouldnt fit in my trunk, and even then i just had these 4 plastic triangle pieces sticking out the side... so i just hacksawed them. #2 i like it here... so if i cant joke around with you guys.... what can i do have an even better, better one.... hahaha Stainless |
I just bought mine off of ebay for 95.00 shipped. 70 for the case 25 for shipping, the thing a tank, very nice. does the knife that comes with the case work well for foam cutting??? I dont have a electic knife
|
Ummm, the wheel assemeblies unbolt completely from the case. Hacksawing is Darwinian! HS1 ETA: I purchased mine on the EE from the gentleman from Wisconsin up above. Hi inferno!

I was thinking the same thing ![]() |

Well I did it. I went to Sam's and bought a Starlight case for just a few cents under $70 bucks. It is a little bigger than what I really wanted, but for $70 I can't rant to much at all. It has the wheels, but from what I can tell if I were to take the wheels off, there won't be any way to maintain the air tight seal. So if they just don't work for me. I think hacking them off would prove to be the better choice. My first impression was good. This thing could be beat down and still keep everything intact. Right now the only thing I am going to have cut out for is my M4 and 4 mags. I don't want to go nuts putting everything in it. Anyway, the Sam's club here has at least 10 of these Starlight cases for just under $70. If any of you guys that said you don't have a Sam's club want me to get one and ship it to you, let me know. All I will have to do is stop by there to buy one then go to UPS and ship it. Of course you will have to provide the funds, but at least you won't miss out. |
| Ive got a Colt MT6601 20" & a RRA 16" midlength in mine ( cut out on the top pad) with 10 magazines underneath. You could get 4 guns in that sucker if you wanted to. Paid $52.00 for the case. Its a little bulky but fits nice in my truck. Weight is not an issue with me. When I open the case up to show friends what's in it they have a look of disbelief. I like the shock factor of seeing 2 rifles right when you open the case. |
Unbolt the wheel assemblies. DO NOT HACKSAW!!!!! Re-use original hardware including the rubber washers. Add some black silicon on the inside and outside of the case, place rubber washers on top of silicon and tighten down the hardware. Why hacksaw a $200 rifle case? Geesh! HS1 |
$70 rifle case. ![]() |

I just got my new Pelican 1700 yesterday. $150 shipped. Perfect fit. The starlight case at Sams was just too big and heavy for just one rifle. http://photos.imageevent.com/nsvx13/mydigitalcamerapics/large/DSCF0037.JPG |

| RCSTZ71, just wondering how you close that case with all the guns like that or is one set the lower level just put on top so we can see what you carry in the case? I have seen pics like this before and it baffles me how you actually use the case like this. Thanks |
the weapons are down in the foam, it has been cut out for them. it's not a cheap case where you can just set them in, they have to be custom cut for each item. |
| Got my Starlight from Sams for like $87 and some change a few months ago. Took off the wheels as they kinda irritated me. Went to put the original bolting hardware on and didnt like the way the bolt stuck into the foam so I went to Lowe's and picked up some new bolts, nuts, washers and rubber washers. I'll take a pic and post it when I get home, at my parents house right now. |
Yeah, but it takes a long time. The "knife" that comes with it is barely adequate because the foam is deep. You'll find yourself replacing blades on your ex-acto knife a few times before you're done. And you should err on the side of making a cutout that's a little "too small." This will make for a good, snug fit. |
