I have a DPMS .22LR upper with the 10-shot mag. It is supposed to also accept the Colt 20-round magazines, but I can't find anyone offering them. I would expect them to be rare, and worse case I will have to wait for the sunset, but can anyone suggest a source for these mags now ?

Are you talking about the M261 mags?  If so I think I've seen some on ebay, but pricy..

When I googled this subject, I found this picture of an original Colt 20-rounder. It looks like a conversion of the old 20-round .223 mags. Anyone know of a source ?

There were no 20 round M261 magazines.  They are all 10 rounders.

To use the M261 10 round magazines you insert them into a USGI 20 or 30 round magazine.  That way when you train with the .22 conversion kit the magazine insert/removal is the same as using the full-power 5.56 rounds.

The only 'hi capacity' .22LR conversion kit magazines were for the Cienner .22 conversion kit.  They were 30 rounds.  They are not compatible with the M261, so I doubt they would be compatible with the DPMS unit (since you said the DPMS could use the Colt units).

Edited to add: and before you ask - yes I've used the M261 in the National Guard and I have an M261 clone made by Oly (I love it!).

Good info.. thanks. It sounds like I'll have to live with the DPMS 10-round mags or wait for them to make post-sunset hicaps.
