Did I hear that you are not supposed to be able to buy FN parts?

The parts floating around are from the contractor that makes those parts for FN.  This means that they are either extras or rejects.  FN cannot sell direct to the public because of their contract with the gov't.

Are FN parts prohibited parts?

IIRC, when FN got awarded the M16A2 . . .  (20") contract, part of the provision was that FN can not sell its M16 type parts to the public sector (ie - military only).

FN does not make all its own parts.  Just like most companies they contract work out to machine shops (never makes much sence to put all your {production} eggs in one basket).  The respective machine shops make and sell a variety of AR parts, and if they have production overuns (if), and the parts are not marked FNMI or similar they can be sold to public.  But they will not be "FN" parts.

There are some surplus FN parts floating around in the market today.  Most we sold to the public as surplus or possibly LE Dept , before the current contract restrictions.  Or they could be stolen??
