I don't know. It's certainly possible, because Colt has sourced forgings from the same places that other AR companies get theirs. Anchor Harvey forgings have been used by nearly everyone, and we've seen more and more Cardinal and Cerro Metal (the keyhole) forgings lately. Colts receivers and handles are actually subcontracted to Continental Machine & Tool to machine, and they do work for others as well. -Troy |

Well, This is on a NIB COLT, so I must assume that they use Cardinal. You can see I haven't even cleaned the grease out of the windage knob! So for the Great Debate--Colt vs Bushmaster I would say it doesn't matter, as Colt sub contracts out most of the parts! Maybe this is due to the strike? I must have a "POST STRIKE" model. . . . .

so my understanding then is, Colt and Bushy use the same forgings. Whats the differance then? Sounds like they are one andthe same then.  this will start it again.........

The forge mark has nothing to do with the brand of AR-15. Several AR-15 makers can get there forgings from the same company (ie: Cerro, Diemaco, Cardinal, etc.). Each AR-15 maker finishes the machining on the forgings on there own machines, so a Bushmaster upper is not the same as a Colt upper even if they have the same forge mark. Scott |
And just to add to that statement...even though CMT does machining for several AR manufacturers, they have different specs and tolerances for each manufacturer. So Bushy, Colt, and RRA receivers could be quite different. To say they're all the same is not correct at all. |
