A2 rear sight problem i took my AR to the range today and noticed i wasnt doing very good at 50 yards. im talking 2 foot groups. then i noticed my rear sight was wobbling around, it looks like there is a set screw that is missing from in front of the aperature. i just switched from an A1 to an A2 upper and am not too familiar with it fully, is there a screw missing? where could i get one? |

There is a set-screw that holds the two halves of the elevation wheel together, but that shouldn't be causing your problem. It is normal for the steel portion of the sight to rotate as seen from above, and it is spring-loaded so that it will always bias to one side (many people assume this is bad, but it's part of the design). Can you describe more clearly exactly what is loose and where? -Troy |
| the rear sight turns back and forth a little, im not sure if this could cause the problem i was having as the aperature is wide enough that a little play shouldnt matter. the screw is right in front of the flip aperatures, there is a hole and no screw. i noticed i was a foot high then a foot low, and noticed the sight was wobbling around and missing a screw. i maxed out the windage, and i was still way left. |

Why do I get the feeling that this is somebody's home built job, and that the barrel nut wasn't tightened properly; if at all? Tell us something about where this piece came from, whrther it has a muzzle brake on the end of the barrel, which could be tilted, and have bullets bouncing off the edge of the exit hole, and anything else you know about the piece. |
| no its not a home build, its a bushy M4 flattop upper on a DPMS lower, with a fake birdcage installed by adco. it was shooting good, but i took it out to the 50 the other day and i was all over the place. i saw the sight wobbling so i automatically assumed that was the problem and started shooting my FAL. |

If it's a factory built upper w/an add on brake, and you continue to get these results w/ammo you know to be decent quality, then I would definitely look at the possibility of the brake having gotten banged on something and tilted just enough to have bullets touching the edge of the exit hole. Darned if I can think of anything else that would cause this sudden degrding of accuracy. If it didn't have the brake, I'd suspect the edge of the rifling at the muzzle of hving gotten buggered, but the brake should protect that area. Keep us posted on what you find out , and good luck w/getting it fixed. |
