Time to stop lurking and start posting.
I'm new to the Black rifle thing and started out with a carbine .
I've been looking for a heavy barrel ar15 for varment hunting.
A customer of mine brought this dpms for me to look at. He claims it has a stainless lower.
I disasmembled it for a look and the lower is heavy. More so than my Bushmaster Modular carbine lower.
Has anyone seen one?
He wants $700.00 for it including the Tasco scopeHopehttp://my.voyager.net/~ebgb68/DSC0038.jpg

DPMS Stainless lower
$497.95-567.95 for a complete lower.
And some people complain about how much the Colts cost.

Even with the upgrade, the site is still lacking.

My friend just picked up a very nice DPMS stainless lower.  It is identical to yours except that his was finished in Colt grey. It certainly is a high quality lower and that seems to be a good deal at $700. Very solid.

As previously stated, stainless steel receivers are noticeably heavier when compared to aluminum receivers.  My Group Industries SS receiver weighs 14.47 ounces more than aluminum.

I used a black DPMS stainless lower on my .458 SOCOM build for the extra weight, didn't need it so it turns out but I didn't know that at the time.  I know what a 7 pound 45-70 kicks like and wanted nothing to do with that on a rifle that cannot be fitted easily with a good recoil pad.  However, the brake Tony put on it made that extra pound in the lower completely unnecessary.  If it is truly a stainless lower, which I have little doubt from the picture, it should have an "S" either before or after the serial number, cannot remember which right now.  The complete rifle with the roughly $200 lower (stripped and retails for almost $400) sounds like a pretty good deal to me for $700.
I got mine for $180 though Brownells as an 03 C&R holder and my 01 dealer transferred it for me.  It went together with the RR NM lower parts kit and Tony's upper without a hitch.  I also like the way it puts the weight between your hands rather than someplace else.  My M15-A4 (T) was terribly out of balance with its bull barrel and it took 2.5 pounds of lead in the stock to balance it out.  Talk about one heavy rifle.  I am not sure how one pound in the lower would have helped balance out that rifle but really do not think it would have done much.

Isn't the difference in weight between an HBAR and a Gov profile bbl about 1lb?

Well I went ahead and bought it.
I installed a better scope  and sighted it in. Now I'm thinking about a 18 or 20 in. barrel with a matching color upper?

anyone seen uppers to match this lower?
