Well, I took my brand new AR15 (Bushmaster Dissipator) out to the range over the weekend and had an absolute GRAND time. Shoots like a dream (I did a "barrel break-in" over the course of the firing). Anyway, I 'spose it's a moot question, but is there anything I can do to eliminate the brass markings on the case deflector? I hate to try and clean them off with a bore brush because I feel I may take off the finish. Or are those marks just something that is part of owning and firing an AR15? Thanks for any suggestions and/or comments. Robb |

Ditto, clp will take 'em off, but ya might get the reputation as a "neat-freak" if they bug ya, all my ARs has brass marks. BTW, if that is a "chrome-lined" chamber and bore Bushy (which most are) the shoot one, clean bore, shoot one, clean bore method of break-in was a waste of time and only added wear from the bore bush on your bore. Call me strange, but I like the brass markings on the deflector. It adds character. Add to that: If any of my buddies ever saw me trying to remove it, I'd never hear the end of it. Hell, if I didn't pay so much for the damn thing, I'd drop it every now and then. It's a military rifle, for God's sake. That being said, the others are right. A little CLP and a rag will take care of it. |

Robb, That's why they call it a "brass deflector". Like the man said, you can put a piece of tape over it if you like. Personally, I think that worrying over every little scratch and ding takes the fun out of the sport. My rifles are starting to look a bit tired and dinged but I'll put them up against anyone else's for reliability. FWIW YMMV DFB |
| I doubt you could ever wear through the anodized finish by cleaning too much unless you were using a highly abrasive brush or something of that nature to do your cleaning. Type III (hardcoat) anodizing is harder than steel and will pretty much last forever. Some areas, such as corners and areas that are in contact with moving parts will wear over time but for the most part you should be good. Just wait until the finish actually starts coming off of your brass deflector on the sharp edge right before the ejection port. I bet that really pisses the neat freaks off. |
