Did Colt ever sell uppers with the cerro (keyhole) forging marks?

They still do [:)]

This is the upper for my 6400C. It was built in September of 2003.

Thank's CJan_NH!

Is it the "C" that makes it distinctive as a Colt?  I have Model 1 uppers with the keyhole mark.

The reason I ask is that there's a guy on eBay selling what he describes as a Colt upper with the cerro mark, but it looks just like a Model 1 upper I have.  I'd hate to pay Colt prices for a Model 1 upper.

Supposedly it does with the Cerro Colt uppers Tyrod, but not necessarily all of the others. I am by no means an authority on this though.

The bottom upper in this pic is a genuine Colt upper without the "C":

A while back I bought a couple of uppers from eBay, and the sellers didn't really have a grasp on what they were selling. They didn't realize that the forging companies sell their raw forgings to different AR manufacturers, They were calling their item brand "X" based purely on the forge mark-and they were wrong.

I ended up getting a Colt 20" A2 HBAR complete upper half from a guy who swore he was selling a Bushmaster [:)] It had all of the Colt proof marks on the barrel, bolt, carrier, and carry handle.

My new colt also has an upper with the forge marks like the bottom receiver. My pre-ban colt has the "C" but the new one don't. Who makes this upper? Is it appearing on any Bushies or RRA?

The bottom upper is a Diemaco upper from Canada.  Diemaco parts aren't normally available in the US, but they have a Colt license and Colt sometimes buys parts from them when demand exceeds their supply.

Remember: forge markings generally can NOT be used to determine the manufacturer (i.e., the company that machined and finished the upper).

This is making my head hurt.  How's a person to know a genuine colt upper from any other.  This all seems rather vague and quite open to misrepresentation.

Tyrod, is it advertised as an M4 upper or just a flattop?

Does it have these? Colt flattop M4 upper:

M4 extended feedramp cuts?

This is the one in question.

In the auction title he clearly claims it's a Colt.  I have my doubts.

Never the less, Saturday, I'm going to a gun show and will try to separate the wheat from the chaff.

All of my Colt A2 uppers (I have three of them) have production codes like this:

That seller looks like he's making a stretch between Cerro and Colt.

Since the only marking it has is the Cerro keyhole I wouldn't pay an extra premium for a "Colt" factory part. If he said that it came off of a Colt rifle that would be one thing. My Rock River A2 upper looks exactly like that one, with the keyhole in the exact same place.

There is nothing wrong with Cerro parts mind you, but why pay extra for Colt production and finishing procedures when you aren't actually getting them?

Man, I just opened myself up for an ass kicking [:D] Oh well...

Edited to add: Troy said it best earlier in the thread. You cannot determine the manufacturer based on a single forge mark.
