What is the best gun lock for the AR? Yeah, I know, I know. He-men don't use them. I tried the magazine lock that bushmaster sells, but it doesn't really keep the gun from firing if there was a cartridge already in the pipe. I have a 20" bbl. Thanks |
| With much respect to you I do not want to preach my ideas on guns safety, so if it sounds that way its not intentional...IMO , I believe that keeping a round in the AR15 with the magazine lock you've mentioned is not a good idea. I have that lock, and think that if you plan on keeping the rifle in the ready position, the one round in the "pipe" is not practical as say a full mag. Your probably better off with a full mag in a butt stock pouch andthe mag lock engaged in the locked position. Then just load the gun normally if needed. If you consider the other options: cable locks through the reciever and mag well will not allow for any round locked in the weapon because the bolt is not in battery when the cable is in position. Convetional trigger guards may not work on the AR like on hand guns. The only other type I've seen is the "gun vault" reciever lock the actually wraps around the upper and lower like a clam shell. But even then I do not think it will allow a magazine in place. If a hot weapon is what you really want at the ready, then a quality gun safe is the fastest to open and have what you need all charged up. Hope you find what you're locking for. |

Actually, I was thinking of the case where a cartridge was accidentally left in the chamber. If this happened, I would want a lock that would prevent accidental discharge. The magazine lock that bushmaster sells would not do this. I called them and asked. I would not store any gun with a round in the chamber. I agree with you, that would be a poor idea. I like the pro-lok type locks but they won't fit on an ar. CMP ships them out with the garands they sell. It's a good, study lock that comes right off if you know how to work it. |

Quoted: DPMS has this lock that I've only seen in the Gun Rags. But it worked with a PAD LOCK (sold separately) and it prevents the AR from being loaded, chambered, AND!!!! from being disassembled. It looks like a great unit, but I've never seen one in person. Where did you find it on thier site. I looked around with no luck. TIA |
