I tried posting this on the Build It Yourself Forum, but no replies yet. This Forum gets many more Members on it so please excuse the duplication:

I picked up a pair of round full length handguards at a gunshow last weekend. The seller knew nothing about them. They are A2 style, but will only fit with a round HG cap and have twelve ribs instead of the twenty-one ribs like on the A2 HG's that I'm familiar with.

Would somebody please identify them for me as to who manufactured or sold them, and if they were installed on any complete rifles? I've seen photos of them in a couple of books, but they weren't identified.

they sound either like early Colt round handguards-Colt made some full size round ones in the 1960's (unlikely) or one of the knockoffs that came out in the mid eighties when the A2 was introduced-Maybe Lone Star Ordinance manufactured?

Thanks TimJ!

You may have solved this for me. Among the goodies in the box of parts that I bought was a Colt lightweight 20" bbl. "C MP CHROME BORE" that was complete with FSB and a round HG cap and looked (impossible to tell for sure) like it hadn't ever been apart!

There also was an M16A1 upper, an SP1 complete lower, and a brand new (never been out of its bubble pack) Colt .22 conversion kit, along with several baggies containing spring kits, pin kits, barrel nuts, sight parts, etc.

Never know what you'll find on an old cowboys table.
