Personally I despise the offset pin that Bushy sells. It binds, isn't secure, and is an all around pain in the ass to use.

Bushy's pin

The consensus is that this one is much better:

CDNN's pin

I've had great luck with this one, so have most of the people here who use it. You can buy it HERE for $6.99 plus $9.95 shipping. CDNN is a good outfit, their shipping is a tad steep though. I gladly pay it however-that conversion pin is worth it's weight in gold [:)]

DPMS sells a pin similar to that of the lower photo in CJan's post. It adapts the small (.250") hole upper to the large hole lower. You can get it from Brownells. Cheaper than CDNN if you get trade price ($5.17) and they'll ship it for $3.60! Their retail price is $7.40 so it still would cost less than CDNN's because of the exhorbitant shipping charge.

I've got nothing against CDNN, having been a satisfied customer for years, but I hate it when they pad their profits on small orders by raping you for the shipping. How much could it cost them to put it in a padded Priority Mail envelope and mail it?

I vote for the CDNN pin also. It does not jam up with my SP2 lower.
pricey tho

MrNemo, thanks for the heads-up on an alternate source for that pin [:)]

I've always had good luck with CDNN, but I've chafed at their shipping costs for such a small item. I'll head over to DPMS and grab a couple of extras now.

Thanks again!

I am in need of a pin to mount a large hole upper to a samll hole lower.  I do not think the CDNN pin will work from looking at it.  Anyone with some experience with this please chime in and steer me in the right direction.

Batman,
does your lower have the raised fence around the mag release?

The CDNN pin is made just for that type of lower. I don't know what the DPMS pin looks like.

Edited: oops I got it backwards also. sorry

What about fitting a small hole upper onto a large hole lower?

I have the CDNN adapter and I use it for my large hole lowers and small hole uppers.  Unless they sell a different kind, I can't see how I can use that pin for my small hole lowers and large hole upper.  The diameter at the outer parts of the pin are too large to even fit in a small hole lower.

I've tried using that center barrel bushing shown under Bushy's offset pin.  I placed that bushing in my large hole upper so I can use it with my small hole lower.  It's a pain to get the rear hole aligned properly because of the offset.

CDNN (www.cdnninvestments.com) has $9.99 FLAT FEE shipping, the same no matter how MUCH of how little you buy. With all of the cool stuff they've got it's not hard to get your shipping money's worth!  And no I don't work there.

$9.99 shipping is too much to pay when you're buying a $6.00 part. Sometimes many of us only need a small part and would rather not wait to build up a large enough order to justify CDNN's flat shipping rate. Georgia Precision, Brownells, and others offer competitive (or better) pricing, generally ship much faster, and just plain kick CDNN's butt on shipping charges. It is that kind of treatment of small orders that keep customers coming back when they want to place the big ones!

Are you listening, CDNN?

The adaptor pin (bottom in CJan's post) that is eccentric with the screw nut on the end, and the DPMS pin will adapt the small hole upper (.205" dia) to the large hole (.315" dia.) lower. I use the DPMS to adapt my M16A1 upper to my SP1 lower and it works just fine!

adapters SUCK. just get a daniel defense large hole upper and build from there.

Guys,

He HAS a large-hole UPPER.  He wants to use it on a standard lower.

Linked,

The BM conversion pin that CJan_NH has pictured is the right item, and the CDNN conversion he posted below does the opposite (standard upper on large-hole lower).

I would really recommend buying a new upper receiver and installing your existing barrel on it, as that's the better solution in the long run.

What kind of upper is it? give some stats.

I have fudged around with the BM reverse offset pin for Colt upper to standard lower, it is a pain.  I also have a Colt large hole lower, holding on to a standard pin Colt M4 upper using a BM offset pin, but in that case, the weapon works fine.

Here is what I do not understand: The reason we use small hole upper and a large hole upper is the lower is a weapon, and in some cases, like me in California, cannot replace a "pre-banned and registered" lower receiver.  But on the other hand, why go thru all the headache in getting a pin that marginally work, just have a qualified armorer replace the upper receiver with a standard hole receiver (Colt, BM, and other brands), cost more, but it does solve your problem forever, and no more heartburn.
