| Need help I have a couple Bushmaster A3 M4 carbines with the 14 1/2 inch barrel with a permanently attached Y COMP. I want to free float the barrel and install a three rail gas block with detachable front flip site. Will I be better off trying to remove the Y COMP or buying a preban barrel doing the work then attaching a new muzzle brake. what do you think. |
| i removed mine with a dremel but bushy puts them on real good if you have more than 1 to do and dont have acsess to a lathe send them to kurt. but if you want to try to take them off bushy puts a blind pin at 12 and 6 o-clock then welds over them. just grind down to the threads make sure you dont grind the threads off then switch to a cutoff wheel and cut the brake long ways in half on the top and bottom then drive a wedge between the two halfs and pop they come off. then do your work and put your new brake on using locktite dont weld it. it'll pass the wrench test and if you want to take it off stick it in the oven and off it comes. my .02 |

Of course, in Sept it will all be a mute point... but stay legal until then. |

OR you could cut off Your Front sight base. Seems that would be easier. Remove your barrel and slip the nut over the comp. Then install your barrel with the FF handguard nut. Then use a railed gas block that is a 2piece unit that clamps onto your barrel instead of slipping on. And your done! Another option anyway. edit: I know I've seen 2-peice 2 rail gas blocks, but I'm not sure about 3or4 rail ones. |
