this will be my first ar15.  there are a lot of colt and bushmaster fanatics out there, but i've read a lot about rra's and am really leaning that way.  so i was wondering if anyone that has a first hand experience with these rifles could tell me about some pros/cons with them.  i look at the price for their entry tactical and then compare and they seem to be pretty cheap.  then again are they built too cheap??  so any input would be appreciated.  thanks.

RRA is a great gun, Ive got an AR15.com special edition RRA M4 and an RRA lower which I built on a BushMaster upper. You cant go wrong with the RRA, barrels are not typically chromed lined but you can get them chrome lined for an extra $35. RRA just got a huge contract with the DEA so they must be doing something right. Every one says buy ABC well there gonna have to change that to buy ABCRRA.

A Rock River AR is a solid weapon and an excellent value. I've had great luck building ARs with RRA components.

Here is one of my recent builds, an RRA 16" CAR:

Pros:
-Great value
-Lifetime warranty
-Good QC on factory built weapons (The out of spec receiver rails are a thing of the past I believe)

Many of the cons can be argued either way:
-Chrome lining only available on select models (some people prefer it that way)
-No 1/7ROT barrel option
-Are their barrels and bolts magnetic particle tested during assembly? Proof fired?

My safe is home to both Colt and RRA ARs. I'm very happy with the performance of both brands [:)]

I just got my RRA 20" Varmint (my first AR) and my tranfer dealer (who had never handled a RRA before)compared it with some Armalites he had. He said the fit and finish were just as good and he was impressed with the quality of the RRA. He said he'd seen some cheap ones come through but this was a nice rifle. I have yet to shoot it, but I hope this helps.

Rock River Arms is the best AR15 manufacture currently available...

my friend bought a rra and we pretty much had nothing but praise for the weapon.  Has zero jams... except one magazine related fault... it is a rra 20" chromemoly barrel, fluted, etc... highly accurate, cheapest pinpoint rifle...  my own chromelined 16" true gov. profile barrel has given me .4inches groups at 50meters.  For a combat shtf carbine i think thats most impressive.  My weapon absolutly zero malfuntions... (100rds into it).  RRA DEA/FBI rifle tests showed the rra the most reliable ar availble... buy one you won't regreat it... just keep it simple... don't get loowered by the gagets!  :D

Ha! [:D] Scary, isn't it?

A couple years ago I had a factory built Rock River rifle, and I had very good luck with it. I ended up selling it to fund another project and always regretted it.

A few months ago I started building my own ARs, and I was very happy with the quality of their parts. What finally sealed the deal for me though was when they upgraded their weapons to a full lifetime warranty. Any company that stands behind their products like that is worthy of respect.

Now I'm a Rock River believer. I will always have a special place in my heart for Colt because of the consistent quality of their weapons. That being said my safe is big enough to have two favorite brands of AR [:)]

My builds are a mixture of Colt and RRA. I've tried to take my favorite RRA parts and combine them with my favorite Colt parts. That little 16" CAR I pictured above is a nearly equal blend of parts from both companies.

It runs absolutely flawlessly and then asks for more.

That's okay, it will loosen up quickly enough.

My builds using RRA uppers/lowers have been very tight too.

+1 more for RRA.

I have three of them now and can't say enough about them.  I'm going to build another lower here in a couple of weeks on another RRA lower.

Get one, you won't be disapointed.

The March 04 edition of SWAT magazine has a write up on the DEA/FBI RRA rifle.

In short they submerged the rifle for a set amount of time in salt water, buried it in sand for a set amount of time, dropped it from different heights, on the butt, muzzle, sides, exc, exc, then they ran a 15,000rd torture test on it. The RRA rifle had 3 malfunctions in 15,000rds, two of which were magazine related.

Pick up a copy of SWAT, good reading...

Any details? What do you think of RRA lower receiver parts? Do you have any experience how much mil.spec. pin size Colt lower receiver parts would cost (I guess Ken Elmore is the only source?)?

Have had an RRA 16" A-4 for almost a year now. Well over 5000+ rounds through it without a single problem. Feeds everything I have put through it. Purchased mine from ADCO Firearms here on the board. RB Precision is good too (another IL company). Both have top notch customer service. Get the RRA and support an IL company. Just think of how Daley-Blago would feel if you did!  [furious]

+1 for RRA

I have had mine for 2 years now (it was my first AR) and It is great! I love the gun and the company is great to work with. You call there number and a person picks up. No damn recording. 2 things to note:
- It takes them about 3 weeks to build one of the rifles... so be prepaired to wait.
- Chrome bores are extra and you have to request it. That is the only mistake I made.

I love my rifle! Get one!

A dealer at a local gun show told me that RRA was started by guys from Les Baer's group .They evidently wanted their own business . Everyone knows that Les's AR's are great quality .

My dealer told me that the RRA guys were the head armorers at Armalite and didn't like the way Armalite was trying to save costs by cheapening process so they started their own company in order to make as high a quality rifle as they can.  So what's the truth?

Most gun dealers are no different than used car dealers. They'll tell you whatever they have to in order to make the sale.

Do your own research and take whatever the dealer tells you with a grain of salt...just my $.02

The truth is, get what you really want instead of something you're not sure of, just because that's all the dealer has in stock now. You will always regret it.
The gun dealers do not always have what we want, but what they want to sell.

Hi Cato!

I get my milspec Colt parts from Elmore, RGuns, and eBay. My last complete Colt lower parts kit cost me $85.00 or so.

I'm pretty happy with RRA lower parts. My only gripe is that occasionally you have to make adjustments for them to fit correctly. Sometimes little parts like bolt catches and selector levers are out of spec and require some filing to fit.

Aside from that though they have been flawless for me. For my last two builds I used a Colt kit and an RRA kit side by side to compare quality.

The top lower was built with Colt parts, and the bottom with RRA:

The only real difference is that the Colt parts required zero modification to fit into the lower. The pistol grip seems to be a slightly different grade of plastic too.

Time will tell how well they hold up.

When it's all said and done though both ARs function flawlessly. I deliberately beat the living snot out of them both to force a malfunction.

Edited to add: I run Colt buffers, bolts, and carriers in most of my builds (all but one). I also use a Colt HD extractor spring in everything.

IMO, best value in AR's available.

A friend of mine has a RRA Entry Tactical and I was very impressed with it It blew my issued M16s (1 A1 & 2 A2s) away in fit & finish.
None of my issued rifles had a tight fit and the old A1 didn't shoot worth crap (although it had a better trigger(worn in) and I prefered the full auto feature). The A2s shot well (shot expert in basic with one and shot 35 out of 40 (sharpshooter) last record fire).
I think the RRA is an excellent value, but If I had a little extra cash I would personally buy the real deal Colt M4. I think the Colt is also an excellent deal for what you get and you get the little horse on the side.
PS: The Entry Tactical stock is WAY too short, unless you use it with a thick coat or a vest.
