A local dealer is offering me Colt AR15 for $1525.  Considering the specs below, does this seem like a fair price?  I have not seen the gun (it's in another state) so I can only take his word that it is LNIB condition.

Pre-ban Colt AR15 with 20" barrel
HBAR Blue label
Sport stamp
Flash suppressor
One 30-round magazine
Standard (not folding or collapsable) stock
In original box

How much extra do you want to pay for the Colt name? Looks to me you are going to pay about $700 extra.

Don't forget this is a pre-ban rifle. I would offer him no more than $1300.00 Does it have a bayonet lug? Print out the list of Colt AR15 serial numbers to bring with you to make sure it is a pre-ban gun. Is it really like new in the box or used pretty well. If there are nearly no marks on the gun anywhere, it's possible it's barely been shot. The gun would have to be 99% to NIB to justify $1525 in my opinion anyway. Check out www.prebanarms.com and see several pre-ban AR's for $1500 to about $1995 some complete with original boxes, manuals, slings, mags and cleaning kits. A couple of them last I checked were NIB. Also bring CASH to the dealer it really does make a difference. Or try to bargain for more mags at least 2 or 3 more 30 rounders.
Good Luck.

How much do you think a preban rifle (even a colt) will be worth in September when there is no longer a ban. All new rifles will have the preban charecteristics and they will be new for less. I may be a newbie around here but I don't think I would pay twice the price for a rifle with the ban sunseting so soon. (I know I am thinking positive)

True but do you think that the ban will be gone long? I don't. I give it 1 year tops. Then we'll see a ban worse than the one we have currently. I also think the loop holes for the all the stuff that's out there now will be removed. The manufacturers may not even crank out a bunch of stuff for us, mags, stocks, flash suppressors, etc. It's all about supply and demand. Like someone said in a recent thread I read on here, if you take inflation into account, the pre-bans that were sold in the early 80's are just about on par price wise with what we're paying for them today. Not to mention you can't get new AR's exactly like the old ones. Anyone that's fired a pre and post-ban AR can tell you that the Y-Comp muzzle brake is MUCH LOUDER than a bird cage flash suppressor. The bayonet lug is not really needed but what if I just want one. And then there's the whole collapsable stock issue. It's all about what you want in the end and what you feel about the price you are paying for the rifle. If a post-ban gun for $725 makes you happy then so be it. If a $1500 pre-ban is your ticket then bottoms up I say.
Hope my meandering helps somehow. ;-)
