SOrry if this was asked before. I did a search but could not find the answers. What is the required overall length for a post ban A4?

Also I have a RRA post ban CAR A4 with the tactical fixed stock. Too long  for comfort. I could shorten it through the usual pinning etc. I would like to know what is the length of the buffer tube for the preban CAR A4 tactical stocks? Is this the same CAR tube sold at DELTON etc.? Would I be overstepping any law by removing the fixed buttstock from the long tube and placing it on the shorter tube?
Thanks for the help.

Pre or post ban, a rifle must be 26" or longer.  Otherwise, it is short barreled rifle (SBR) and requires a $200 tax stamp.

My preban CAR buffer tube is 6 3/4" from the rear of the upper receiver.  I don't know the ATF interpretation of the week regarding this, but if you blind pin & epoxy the stock to the shorter buffer tube so that it cannot be removed without destroying the stock, you should be fine.  I don't know how easy it is to remove the stock from the postban tubes, though.  You're probably better off to get a cheap preban CAR stock from Tapco and permanently fix that.

Thanks for the quick response. I already took the stock off the long tube and will try to get a shorter tube to work with. Appreciate the help.
