GREETINGS BROTHER ! I'M THINKING THE CLAX-15 WITH ARMS #23-A4B MOUNT AND THE TA-11C&E SCOPE WITH DUAL-DONUT RETICLES MIGHT BE JUST THE TICKET. REMOVABLE SIGHTS - UNCHECK. WEIGHT IS NOT AROUND 3 POUNDS. THIS LITTLE PUPPY SHOULD ONLY COST YOU AROUND$499 INCLUDING NONE OF THE ABOVE. Or you might take off your cap locks and get some real advice ?? 5sub |

OKAY....I ASSUME THAT WAS MODERATE FACETIOUSNESS,I AM SERIOUS ABOUT MY QUESTIONS,IF I CAME ACROSS AS EXPECTING TOO MUCH,PLS FORGIVE ME,I AM LOOKING FOR AN AR THAT IS AS CLOSE TO MY SPECS AS POSSIBLE.IS THAT BETTER.MAYBE I AM PERCEIVED AS NEW MEAT,THAT SHOULD BE QUICKLY HUMBLED(HUMILIATED?)FAIR ENOUGH,I TOOK MY WHOOPIN,. NOW HOW ABOUT SOME ADVICE. |
| THAT SEEMS TO BE A CONSENSUS,AS FAR AS WHICH MANUFACTURERS OFFER A GOOD PRODUCT.BUT, MORE SPECIFICALLY,IS THERE ONE MODEL FOR WHICH I SHOULD LOOK FOR THE BEST VALUE.MY PISTOLS HAVE EATEN MOST OF MY BUDGET.I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A 16 OR 18 INCH BBL AND STILL GET GOOD ACCURACY.IS THIS REASONABLE?SEEMS THAT RRA'S ARE MORE REASONABLY PRICED.THE ONLY AR'S I HAVE ACTUALLY HANDLED ARE BUSMASTERS,THEY SEEM WELL MADE BUT PRICEY.IF ONE OF THE OTHERS OFFERS A COMPARABLE PRODUCT,OF COURSE I WOULD RATHER GO THAT ROUTE.ALSO SEE THAT ALOT OF GUYS BUILD THEIR OWN,IS THIS THE WAY TO GO?SORRY TO BE SO NAIVE SOUNDING,BUT I AM,AS FAR AS THIS TOPIC GOES. |

Your standard carbine/M4 from Armalite, Bushmaster, Colt or Rock River Arms should fit your bill nicely. My choices would be Bushmaster and then Rock River, in that order. See if there's a model that you like: www.bushmaster.com www.rockriverarms.com |

Im Shopping for the same Thing, I have it narrowed down between the RRA Entry Tactical and the Colt MT 6400C. Grab a Copy of the Rock River catalog from their web site and look over the endless list of options. Another to Look at is the Armalite, Their M4 is flattop all the way, then just add your sights/optics. There is so much to choose from.. You could visit your local shops and "Try" a few out to see what fits your fancy. Good Luck. |
|
Also, if you go RRA. ADCO firearms has a section of their website where you can build a custom M4 upper. You can change out the barrels, sights, muzzle brakes, handguards, add chrome lining, add a rail system, etc. Link: http://www.adcofirearms.com/rockriver/upperbuild.cfm?page=rra |
| all the options are what got me so in need of assistance, that is why i was hoping one of the "veterans" could point me in the right direction.advice so far is helpful,am looking forward to more.are RRA and DPMS considered to be as well made as the bushies and colts?i would be happy to spend $700 instead of $1k on a rifle that would servce my purposes for a long time. |

RRA is on par with the ABCs, Armalite, Bushmaster, Colt. Follow tivoli's link and choose your options. You should only need a flat-top upper with a standard front site base. Add an ARMS 40 for a back up rear sight. Keep in mind, you are asking a lot for one rifle, especially for under 1000 dollars. |
|
If you feel like it, a kit gun on a Eagle arms Lower from Quantico Arms would be a cheaper solution. I built up a 20" A-2 from a J&T kit on a RRA lower and it wors real well. The EA lowers are $75 from QA, and a kiw can run from $450-600 depending on what you want. I really liked building my gun. And it is not that hard to do. Just follow instructions and you can have a good rifle at a low price. |
| You asked for an opinion. Here's one for ya. You want a 16" right? This will fit nearly all your needs. Go to ADCO sight .Check with Steve. I would get an M4 entry model . But there are a couple of other 16" to choose from. It comes with the front side sling swivle mount and is a Flat upper with the A2 rear sights carrying handle with rails on it also. So you can add your Optic's. Now I would get a chromed barrel. You said all purpose. I don't think the accuractcy lost is anough to measure for the 16" IMO. Its an added bonus for cleaning and durabilty for your rifle. ++++++ Now if your ordering the complete rifle , going through Steve at ADCO he will swap out stocks for you. You want a good stock to get a good hold with to aim correctly. Get the A2 stock. He can swap it for you. It might be an even swap. Now if you want to cut weight alittle he can trim your barrels OD under the hand guards to Mil spec . He does charge but it will be done and refinished. You can get a Muzzel break added or get the Fake FS that looks pretty good and still protects your muzzel from dings. Check him out. ADCO. I have ordered from him and been very pleased with the product. I have the RRA M4 Entry. Very nice. Also I have to add to get your 1" MOA ( chromed barrel or not ) Optic thats MOA and quality ammo should get you to MOA or close anough. Surplus will get me 2" MOA with no scope and shooting off of bench supported. There several options. And with going through ADCO you can have things done to your ordered rifle BEFORE it evers gets to you. No sending it back off. And by the way a good OPTIC will cost you. $$$$ Thats why I don't have one yet. Good luck , and RRA is very good.Nothing wrong with Bushie. I have one of those also. But dollar for Dollar, RRA. Welcome jmt1271. I started my research last Fall, hopped on this forum in early Jan., and went shopping. After handling a few in a local shop, and speaking to some AR shooters I know, I went with a Bushmaster M4A3. It just balanced great, and will serve well for plinking, targets, defense, hunting. |
| Just checked the prices at ADCO. $805 . Car A4 Elite. It looks nice. It has mid lenth handguards. looks to have the forward side sling mount. Detacable carry handle with A2 sights. I would order one with a Chromed barrel.$30 more. Thats just me. Although if you keep one cleaned and maintained with a non chromed barrel if would run fine. With a Chromed barrel there is no dout.No rust and easy clean up. Find you a FFL holder that will do a transfer for you. Most charge about $20 . Don't get ripped.Don't let them mark up the rifle your paying for. All you want them to do is recieve and transfer it. $20 -$30 . There is even a locator on line to find someone in your area to do the FFL . Good Luck. WD |
